The first ones are for Don. Some old glass insulators. These are almost as old as you (JK!). The guy said these are even older, IDK. I paid $6 for all four. I thought it was a good deal. And now for the rocks. Some goldstone and purple-ish goldstone. Varisite nodule and another piece Burro Creek maybe? Cacoxinite Tiger eye (I see some more rings in my future!) Green aventurine Gary Green jasper Agatized Opalized petrified wood I have no clue what this one is And I saved the best for last - another chunk of dino bone. No reds or pinks, but like the B/W contrast. (sorry for bad picture, I SWEAR it was moving when I snapped the shot ) And how much did I pay, you ask? Drum roll, please.... I picked up 13 rocks for ten bucks! Okay, Brad, you can wipe the drool from your keyboard now, LOL! It was a hot day, but ended up being worth a trip to the swapmeet. Thanks for looking!

Whaaaaa? Would be willing to pay that for the Dino alone as it looks like solid material suitable for at least two carving. The Cacoxinite looks like its going to yield a couple of fantastic cabs too.

Cool finds-I use to collect the old glass insulators while living in North Dakota...Even had the brown ones (OLD),plus the white insulators for grounding wires...Probably a 100 or so different types..Gave them to my buddy from Texas,he collected them too... Nice rocks too by the way...

I would have selected many of these rocks--- especially the outstanding cacoxenite and bone. The price was excellent, too.

Can't beat a deal like that. I am no expert but the pet wood looks more like opal wood than agatized wood. Jim

Thank you, all! Jim, you are correct - opalized pet wood. (that's what I meant to say)

Damn Girl ! Them's some fine looking insulators. Rocks ain't too shabby either. That's a fine lookin' hunk of bone. Hey Mike, is this the white insulator you were talking about ? They're still using them for the hot wire on fences around here.

The black lined dino bone and cacoxinite are wild . Never seen barrel shaped insulators like those. Fine rock assortment for sure.

I like old stuff. Thanks for posting your pics (and the extra effort you put into it! ) James, did you mean the colored chunks of glass? I'd never seen those before, either. Anybody else have any they want to add?

Will the Cacoxinite polish ? I have only seen it as a micro-mineral in cavities. Looks like it will polish, just wondering !

Nice find. Gotta love them cells. The black outline around the cells is the best part. It really helps bring out the cells. Black around cells is saught after. A lot of time the cells are outlined with brown silica looking stuff.

Will the Cacoxinite polish ? I have only seen it as a micro-mineral in cavities. Looks like it will polish, just wondering ! Frankie, I've never tried any like this before. I had a piece of amethyst w/cacoxinite in it (from Krystee ), the amethyst took a sweet polish, so the yellow cacoxinite (don't you just love typing that word?) really showed up well. (center one in photo below) Would look better backlit, not on pink table. After I got this big chunk, I realized that I had picked up a thinner piece at an estate sale a while back, but didn't know what it was. My understanding is that it is fibrous like asbestos, and care needs to be taken while cutting or working. Thanks, Brad. I thought you'd like that bone...

I find a cacoxinite from an old iron mine just over the line in Alabama. This is a phosphate mineral. It is brilliant yellow hairs in clumps of fuzzy balls. Sometimes the very tips will also have bright red ends. So beautiful under a microscope. Once I found cacoxinite hairs on a kidwellite (light purple) ball. Made a great micro. Your cacoxinite looks like it would take a great polish. The last photo looks like the caoxinite is red in color and does make a great stone cab. The area for these micros is known as Indian Mountain.

LOL. Actually I was digging in my shed for a left hand threaded nut for someone else, and the damned thing fell out of a box and landed on me.
