Sad to read it Mario. I hope you can avoid the removal surgery if at all possible. It's less than good. Have you tested yourself for food allergies? Wheat/Grain... Tree Nuts? Peanuts? others? All the best no matter what. never been allergic to any of that stuff before... I love a good roasted/salted in the shell, peanut!! One of life's simplest pleasures!!!

I recently found out I have been allergic to wheat all my life. I lost 35# in 3 months after quitting cold turkey. Never had obvious symptoms until I noticed knee pain going away and coming back after eating a bagel. Tested three weeks later. Bagel again, knee pain again. Wheat causes swelling in my arthritic knees and apparently to gain weight too.
Allergies manifest in strange ways sometimes.

And it only took you this long to find out about it? Well, at least you finally put two and two together, and came up with four! Nowadays, living without wheat should be much easier than it was years ago.

I stay away from the wheat and just eat the germs.

Nowadays, living without wheat should be much easier than it was years ago. I had suspected it for a decade. Had every test kaiser could throw at me. All negative. The knees are the indicator. Eat a bagel, knees hurt. Don't eat any wheat, no naproxen needed for the knees! Kryptonite I tell you, Kryptonite! The ortho says it is due to allergy induced swelling. Prior to my accidental experiment, they were on track for "auto-immune" disease. Auto-immune is the new catchall for "we can't explain your condition". It used to be "fibromyalgia".

Although I personally have Kaiser, I have my doubts about how good they are at diagnosing anything other than remedial issues. Tests, tests, and more tests. Good thing you were smart enough to figure it out on your own! Good job, Scott!

Kaiser saved my life. I have found this and one other rather major issue with them. But for everyday stuff they are marvelous.

My Dad has dermatomyositis. It is classic. He is 5 years past the average 9 year life expectancy at 14 years and 85 years old. Tough rascal. It is called fibro. Often never diagnosed properly. It makes him weak. He is still active though. Deep knee bends are out though. He gets the red skin associated. He is on low Pregnasone at 20 mg/day. Some case kill quick. His is mild. But it still kicked his butt. www.mayoclinic.com/health/dermatomyositis/DS00335/DSECTION=symptoms

Scott, I'm very glad that they saved your life. However, there's times when they ain't none too swift. My cousin's exwife suffered neurological damage in her wrist/hand when they prescribed two medicines that did not get along. And when Bob broke a toe, Kaiser x-rayed it and told him it was not broken. Several years later, he had the same foot x-rayed, and they asked him when he had broken the other toe?!? Excuse me? This after they had said it was not broken.
They wanted to break the bone in his second toe, and pin everything together so it couldn't be moved. He elected to leave it be.
I only go there when I absolutely have to. Last time to have splinters from a bamboo fence (that had jabbed into my arm and broken off) removed surgically. They got one of them, but missed the last three of them. Some of them were over an inch long. They festered out on their own over the course of the next few weeks. I don't much like doctors and doctoring...
