Yeah thats right, the new guy bumped an 8 year old thread to the top. I searched for the answers to my questions and this thread was the closest to the topic so I'm adding my questions to this thread. If the answers are found elsewhere please forward me to the right address.
I recently obtained a refurbished cabbing machine complete with two expanding drums and an odd assortment of different belts. Some brand new and some gently used. That said I have two questions.
Some of the 220 grit belts are pretty tough to get on the wheel and once used are almost impossible to get off (I say almost cause I did get it off with alot of swearing and about 20 minutes of exertion). Other belts do not have this problem. I have about 6 more of these belts and 220 is a grit I'd use a lot. Any suggestions on getting tight belts on and off
I also had a couple 100 grit belts bust on me while in use. Not injurious but definitely unpleasant. I think they were a bit on the old side. Any advice for a noob on avoiding broken belts or is this bound to happen once in awhile?

Bad size on those 220s May not be lapidary belts. Belt should slip on and off easy enough. I used a expanding drum for 14 or 15 years and never broke a belt, so no it doesn't happen once in a while. If the cloth seems overly stuff or brittle- toss it.
