Mel, I'm just teasing Jim about the crocs.
I don't really care what orientation folks are, unless of course I were single and seeking companionship, then it gets important. lol
Meth kitchens are dangerously full of under trained chemists. They have no safety trainging at all. When I worked chem lab we had a safety meeting every month. I kept getting busted for not having safety glasses so they gave me a book and made me do the safety presentation once. You got it, eye safety. Yes, after that and forever forward I wear safety eyewear.
Lake Seminole, I'll look into it.
we need more rock images.

I am nervous about eyes. I used to fire people if they did not wear eye protection. They can come in drunk or stoned but they are not going blind on my watch What do you mean-more rock images-like where they are as they occur and as found? Those are my favorite subjects but i figured i would bore people. I am going back when wife gets back next week.

Thanks so much for taking us along James! Wow, talk about tannin in the water. Keeps your skin young right, LOL. And your xxxx puckered. Anyway, do you need the running water to keep the silt and mud off the coral? I ask because there are quite a few of water holes that look like this down in SW florida (Marco Island) where my folks live. I might be willing to take a look, but only after scouting for gators and snakes Find any native american artifacts on this trip?

Safety glasses arent really all that safe. They are only really good for stopping heavier blunt objects from hitting your eyes. Small stuff like drywall dust, wood dust goes right around and finds a way in. Even flash fire makes it way around them. The only 100% fool proof safety glasses are the ones with a dust lining.
My very first job as union laborer was at a new bank construction project. I was the ONLY one that wore safety glasses. I walked into a room that had a fan on helping to dry the paint and got nailed by drywall dust. Felt like my eye was on fire. Took quite a while for pain to stop. Sucked.

I'll second Brad's statement on safety glasses - not that safe. While grinding on some metal while wearing safety glasses, I had a sliver hit right below my eye, just underneath the glasses. Bounced up and into my eye. A trip to Redi-care, and they numbed it, dug it out, and delivered a tetanus shot. Other than a hundred bucks lighter in the wallet, no ill effects. That was about 15 years ago.

Magnets work good for steel frags.
Goggles better for chipping coral, I am sure.
Just need you to keep feeding our veins with rock images. You are our dealer for our daily rock fix. Videos are nice and all. But pix are what..........................

Oops, my bad. I was wearing safety goggles, not safety glasses. If the fragment goes into the eye far enough, I'd hate to think of the damage that could be caused by pulling it out with a strong magnet - yikes!

That boat looks pretty short to me! Probably an adventure if you stand up in it real quick like As far as safety glasses are concerned, don't you people be knocking em! Too many folks are just looking for an excuse not to wear anything at all. They may not be perfect, but are far better than nothing at all IMHO.

Ash, I agree - they are better than nothing. I would not do grinding/risky work without some kind of safety glasses/goggles. But, if they do not totally close the gap, they can be a false sense of security. You only get one set of eyes, ya gotta take care of them!

Nothing is perfect for sure, but you gotta work with what ya got. I once got a drop of 50% NaOH in my eye while wearing goggles, they had gotten kicked a bit on my face and I did not have a free hand, was on a tank about 10 feet off the ground pouring the stuff in, so yeah I hear ya, nothing is perfect for sure!

Found no artifacts Mark But if you go above the big shoal (called Rocky Ford) you see from the boat ramp you can do well. I did see heat treated coral washing down the river banks. Not from forest fires. The coral is on the steep banks and in the river and deep under sand safe from fire. Telling me the ancients cooked it.

Beautiful trip! Beautiful coral! Ugly, ugly crocs! and matching watch!
I always wear safety glasses. As someone already said--you only get one set of eyes. I wear the goggles and a breathing mask. ( I forget what that is called) when I cut onions. It works.
When doing some metal work, the full face protector James showed is necessary. Without it , I can feel little pings on my face.

Those little pings are serious if they hit your eyes Pat. I know you are active about manipulating materials. i still am amazed at that sculpture you made(a greek god's head).

goggles and respirator for onions! Man you are serious about your onions! haha!
Pat, I have found two tricks for onions. #1) refrigerate the onions, the tear makers are less toxic at cold temps and #2) cut faster! No time for the tear makers to make tears.

@shotgunner any other tricks? I store onions in the refrigerator. If I cut any faster, I'll have to deal with bloooood! Long ago I read that holding a slice of bread in your mouth while cutting onions would prevent tears. Ha! I was laughing so much, I had tears from laughing. There must be a better way : )

OK,here's the cutting onion trick. Pay attention! Take an unlit "farmers" match (wood stick match) and hold it in your mouth by the wood end. The sulphur and maybe other chemicals, seems to neutralize the tear making vapors off the onion. Yes, I have tried it. Did it work? Maybe a little, but then again I love anything to do with onions!!

We have the famous Vidalia onion. Grown in Vidalia Georgia. Those rascals are sweet and hardly make you cry. When they are in season. A little area in east central Georgia has deadly good onion soil. I cut a little container in the top of a vidalia, put butter in it, set it in a bowl and microwave that rascal for 6 minutes. yum. With the skin on. No cutting needed. Yum. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vidalia_onion
