My son Bryan keeps almost all of the rocks we polish in his room. I keep one dish of rocks in the living room. Last night he asked me to guess how many Petoskey Stones were in his room. I guessed way low. He has about 70. I thought the folks here might enjoy seeing a kid's obsession with rocks. He polished five more tonight.

Cool video. That's a very impressive collection of petoskeys. The fact that you guys go hunt for them yourself makes it that much better. He is going to need a king size bed soon just to fit all the rocks under.

Great collection and most important you have something you and your son are interested in. You don't know how many parents wish for that every day. I liked the video!

Thanks for the video, it brings back a lot of great memories. My son, Chris is 33 now, but we spent many, many hours hounding (we still go once in a blue moon with his son Thomas), collecting, building displays, etc. He (your son) has a great & growing collection.

Nice collection! As you know, it is a challenge to find uses for our collections. My kids love to display their collections and we are always trying to find creative ways to help them. Lately, we done two things. We've taken many of the smaller beach stones along with some extra thinset from a recent tile project and embedded the stones in the thinset on a cheap $1 Michaels frame. A few coats of lacquer later and they look good. The other thing that I'm working on with the kids, is taking some of the larger tumbled and polished stones and making drawer pulls and replacing the ones that came with their furniture. I'll be sure to post some pics when I finally finish the few that I'm working one.
Rock/Mineral/Fossil hunting is a great family hobby. Keep up the good work.

That is awesome. Is he planning on becoming a geologist? If he would be interested in a little Wyoming nephrite PM your address and I will send some. Jim

Bryan definitely has the addiction. Kudos for encouraging him! It kinda reminds me of my house, rocks on just about every horizontal surface. But I don't have any under my bed - yet.

My son looks at mine and says ya nice rock. At least your wife knows where the Tupperware is.

That was really fun to see. Thanks for sharing it Rob.
@azrockgeek & I found some "unakite" here in Cali. Green and black granite but the best have pink too.
Love the fact he knows what every little chip is. I bet if we point to a specific petoskey he remembers when and where it was found.

Great video Rob and Bryan. Brought back good memories of meeting your family! LOL, not a fossil in sight except the petoskys. I think I remember he wasn't too interested in them. Thanks for sharing.

Rob is too humble, but I should mention that not only is Brian an awesome rockhound, he has some good unicycle skills. Check him out here
And you get the two together and it can be "hide the children" time, LOL
Hope you don't mind Rob that I gave a shout out for y'all. - Mark

Oh, that just opened up lots more storage for me. Never thought of the under bed solution. I was afraid I was going to have to start giving them away. Nice video. I'm sure they're all proud of you.
