The Cadys in general are freaking awesome. I know the north part much better than the south and I don't think there is a type of agate "not" to be found there. Definitely some of the most colorful types of moss and plume in the state, orbicular agate, palm root, fortification, jasper in a rainbow of colors, truly incredible geodes sometimes of huge size, incredible orbicular and other fancy patterned rhyolite, travertine in many patterns, green fluorite right next to a fantastic plume site, huge sagenites in multicolors, tube agate etc etc. Probably the best hounding in the whole of California.....Mel

no, I have historically sucked at finding horned toads. I conceed victory to you before it even starts! If beefjello and his bride make it, then you may have a competition.

Scott, you're no fun... Where's your competitive spirit? Sense of adventure?

Scott, All the travertine deposits I've found out there are black and white stuff. Got to say I'm not a real travertine fan though so seldom pay much attention to it. I thought the red travertine came from out NE of Clay Mine rd out at Boron.....Mel

Beautiful jaspers, quite the range of colors! I love brecciated types. I see brecciations in there too. And i am into brecciations also. The last one is awesome. If they are well healed breccias are trophies.

I cannot find a single image, but for awhile a couple years ago it was everywhere. The color of tomato soup.

Given the closeness of Lavic Siding to Route 66, and whatever the new road is it is a wonder there is any rock there at all. I used to haunt the old silver/copper mine, now on the other side of the 29 Palms fence, and remember seeing rockhounds by the dozens in the early sixties there. Those were the days I was only interested in rock if it had precious metal in it. Woody
