I have a Frantom also but it has the grinding wheels /sanding and polishing pad all on one unit, I have only had mine ride up the blade once, I was cutting a rock that was too tall, it had cut though the sides and the only part left to cut was the top portion of the rock ,because the vise only rides on one guide rod it allows it to pivot up, the pull of the gravity drive feed pulls it up the gradual slope near the top of the blade, instead of through the near vertical leading edge of the blade. I just have to watch the size of rocks that I am cutting, I hope that this helps. And what is the amount of weight you have attached to the gravity drive? Some of the original paper work that came with mine recommended 2.5-3.0 lbs, I use a weight from my kids weight set.
