For the last year now I have been using the mineral oil from walmart in my 14" saw. I have no idea about any specifics but it has worked great and at $12 and no shipping I'll keep using it as long as they hold that price. The only drawback is that it only comes in pints at $1.48 each and the stores seem to only stock 4-6 at a time. I went to customer service this time and ordered 20 of them and they shipped them to the store for free. Got a bit of a weird look from the clerk at check out but oh well. I was using the tractor supply stuff at $19 per gallon before and I cant tell the difference Chuck

I don't think that will work for me. I have to order 10 gallons at a time. That's 80 Pints! I get mine for $13 per gallon anyway, so no real gain in walmart for me.... Thanks tho!

yeah, I was figuring this was more of a fix for us 10-12-14 inch saw people. I would not want to spend an hour just trying to open and dump 80 pints.

I use the Walmart mineral oil with my 10" HP saw. I've had no problems with it, and the price is right. Seems like a lot of the time, though, they are out of stock, or have limited quantities. One time, I bought a couple that were missing their plastic caps, but still sealed with foil. The cashier pointed it out to me, and almost didn't want to sell them to me.
I told it it was okay, they were not for human consumption, lol!

I tried it in my 16". I find it to be a little thick. Particles stay suspended longer and I assume that's going to cut down on blade life.

Jumping this one back up. Locally I can get 5 gallon buckets of Crystex for $69.0 ($13.90 per gallon.) From reading the description I do not see a reason not to use it. Has anybody had any experience with this product? It is food grade for critters. I will need a bunch to get my 30" saw up and cutting. That saw is out in the un-heated garage. Any issues with using it in the basement where I run the 12" saw?

Personally, I would not want oil mist in my basement coating my walls or getting into the air I breathe (especially with suspended rock particles). Granted it's food grade, but that doesn't mean it's good for your lungs.

Tech grade or white mineral oil is a good choice. It is supposed to be the same oil as the food grade but not put up in as sterile an environment so can't be used on people food process equipment.

I buy white mineral oil, but it's the same price as the Crystex above.

The key thing on the specs is viscosity and flash point. SUS 100 or below seems to work well. The flash point is good too. The laxative oils seem to work for everyone in warmer environments and you hear too thick in cold areas.

The oil will vaporize and cling in the air. I've cut with a waterbase trimsaw inside, but would not like an oilbase saw in my basement. A 30" sounds like it would be hard to get down there.

The 30" is in the garage where no harm will come. I did put some of this in the bsmt. 12" saw and have been running it this am. It does mist up as the original oil did but after leaving it a few minutes the air is clear. However the lid does not seal very well and that may need a modification.
