I found this in Woodruff, Arizona not far from the Petrified forest. It has gone through pre-polish and is very shiny already. Any idea what it is and what makes the squiggly pattern?

yes, well the petrification process under large amounts of pressure shrunk it.....
sincerely, I hope you get an answer. I'd love to know more about it too.

Fossilman, that's exactly what it is. A bryozoan, and a very nice one at that.
Did you tumble it? Way cool!
Google it for more images.

Thanks Rockpicker. Yes I did tumble it. It's one of my favorites. I will look it up.

Your welcome. I like it, too, it's very pretty.
The reason I asked, I have used a flat lap to polish some of the corals I've found in the deserts of Southern California. Actually just polished a flat face on this one to better see the structure.
The rest is just naturally polished by mother nature.
A few more fossilized sea critters. The polished one in upper left is a coral, I think these all are.
I can no longer walk around in the desert without looking down, lol!

Real nice pieces, granted a little different to find it in the desert. People wonder why rock hunters are so sad, always looking down; won't find the eye candy if they look up, except maybe at a road cut.
