Perhaps you have noticed that the moon is no longer setting in the northwest, moved to the west, and is now moving to setting in the southwest. The moon may have the answer to one of the great geological questions: What caused the great world wide unconformity?The Great Unconformity in the Grand Canyon - 850 million years of rock missing. In its place are huge scattered boulders here and there, then sedimentation began again. The Snowball Earth hypothesis theorizes that the Earth's surface became entirely or nearly entirely frozen at least once, some time earlier than 650 Million years ago. The moon was much closer back then with far greater tidal forces! As those floating melting icebergs were dragged around, they would have been huge battering rams, driving rocks into the oceans where floating continents would have been drug over them, melting them into the mantle. With the last of the ice melted, sedimentation could resume once more, with boulders at the bottom.

If the moon was closer to the earth in the distant past does that implies that it moving away from earth ?

If the moon was closer to the earth in the distant past does that implies that it moving away from earth ? Yep! The moon is presently about 384,405 km away and moving further at about 1.5 inches per year,

1.5" a year?? Are you saying that we will have man made tidal loss? Sheesh, think of the the geoducks! The geoducks rely on tides for food. With no more tides we have no more geoducks. Save the geoducks, stop the moon from moving farther away!

truly a monumental problem! here's my solution
we could divert a large asteroid so that it swings past earth and that gravitational pull would alter the Moon or Earth's orbit. Maybe both. Not sure. But it could work out just right with the correct mathematical calculations. go figure mostly

How about a track around the earth at the equator and a honking big cable to the moon so it can't get away! The moon end JUST needs to be anchored as the same face always faces us.
See? There is always a simple (minded) solution if you just think, thank, thunk.

my solution to saving the moon, is to simply make Al Gore aware of this problem...Al will save us all!!! one dollar, from us, at a time!

Thursday night I went to St Louis to see Blackberry Smoke(killer touring southern rock band from Georgia) concert. Was coming home driving east and on the bridge it looked like you could touch the moon. Looked so low that it was going to fall.

So is there a point to any of this? I don't mean to come off as being rude, but I just don't see any way this contributes to anything so if there is some kind of inside knowledge about the moon setting in the north could someone let me in on it please?

If the fact that the plane of the moon's orbit is different than the suns, and is constantly shifting that changes the tides - which also lifts rocks, Has in the past made dramatic changes in our geological history -like ripping continents apart and then slamming them into each other again, is still triggering earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, and is changing the tides that affect our constantly evolving weather patterns is not interesting to you, then NO, there is no way
