I went through just a very small portion of the rocks I brought home, took over 100 photos of some of the rocks and fossils. The rocks in the following photos were out of the white bag at lower left, have not even touched the crate, bucket or army bag yet. Grey bus tray to the upper right contains rocks from the North Cadys trip in November.
Most of the rocks are fist sized, may have a few just a bit bigger. The bigger ones will get slabbed, smaller or fractured ones will become tumbler fodder. 1
I'll post half of the rock photos that I've uploaded to PB here now, and the rest of them tomorrow. The fossils I'll post in another thread (don't want to overwhelm y'all), and call it CA Potholes - Part 3, Fossils PIC HEAVY. Now, to get on with it.
In no particular order 2
I think this one is my favorite 3
4
May be petrified wood - or not - won't know until I cut it. 5
6
Look Pat, Chocolate chip ice cream! 7
8

10 Yes, I mashed my thumb with my rock hammer and got a blood blister while windowing agates. Also notice split next to it. I was bad and did not keep my hands lotioned-up. Healing up now.

14
Looks just like the stuff from the Green Monster/Brubaker-Mann Quarry in Barstow. 15
16
This is a piece of rhyolite covered with quartz crystals on one side. Could not quite capture the effect with the camera. 17
A map of Mars, canals and everything? I think there are Martians hiding inside 18
Yes, I saw the face in this one. Will have to save this pic for next Halloween. 19
Thanks for lookin', hope you liked 'em. More of the rocks tomorrow, if you can stand it. Jean

That's a good haul, thanks for the show. Not only can we stand some more of the show, pacing the floor in anticipation.
Don: Quite an "old man", looks happy, must have a good home.

Here's the second installment of rocks. I hope you like them as well as the first ones.
A couple more purple ones 1
I think this is the other half of the one grayfingers liked yesterday 2
A couple pink ones, some kind of quartz. I have a bigger chunk that is a little less grainy, we'll see how it works up. 3
This will be interesting when cut open. 4
This one still has some caliche still adhering to it. It will dissolve and reform crystals on the surface when you soak it in vinegar. 5
California pudding stone? I like the reds in Chuck's better. 6
Petrified waves? Just kidding. 7
Healed fractures 8
Creamy nougat center 9
The red ones are cool. 10
I like the little blue dots throughout this one. 11
12
This is the most typical stuff found. 13
14
Looks like a dessert cookie. 15
16
This is some sort of granite. The large white chunks are feldspar (I think). Although rounded by natural tumbling in water, the feldspar plates have a cool sheen to them that doesn't show in pic. 17
Earthquake fault lines in a rock. Lot of motion going on when this was developing. 18
Another one with cool blue dots. Bunch of little seed-like things, too. 19
Looks like candy! 20
A small one, this'll be a tumbler. 21
Thanks for waiting. If I come across any cool ones (you know I will!) when I go through the rest, I'll get some pics and add them. Jean

Cool! A lot of those rounded ones look just like our Rio Grande agates.....Mel That was the same thought i had Mel. Incredible similarity to the wide mix at the Rio. Lots of variety. Makes for great rock hunt. Bet you had a blast Jean.

You got a blood blister Jean. Cool James, only you would think a blood blister is cool. I also got stung by a bee, got bit by catclaw mesquite bushes, and worked my fingertips raw while I was out there.
Woo Hoo !! Love #19. At last, a friend for my Old Man of the Desert. Don, I knew you'd appreciate that one, lol!

Processing fossil photos now.

Wow definitely a wild selection of rocks. That first purple one looks like a river tumbler Burro creek and #16 ooks exactly like the tumbled cobbles of red orbicular rhyolite found in Afton Canyon off Basin Road. Areas you collected looks like it got alluvial rock from all over the place. Super cool!.......Mel

Could it be that agate forming in the deeper south could have those characteristics? Like the temperature had an effect on formation ? Back in the day? The similarity is striking.

There is no way I am going to miss Quartzsite, and the RTH field trip(s) and BBQ. But ya know, Jim, you are absolutely right. I already have more rocks than I can shake a stick at, lol! But whenever I go out rock hounding, I just can't help myself. (I don't normally buy a lot of rocks at Q.) Ooooohh, I am addicted to rocks! At least I don't have to feed or pick up after them, keep them warm or cool, etc, etc. They just take up room on the patio... Oh, and there's that extra weight to haul up the hill on the way home .
