Ah, yes. Hoping for some positive Photoperiodism, following this proper vernalization. Had to look the vernal word up Master Bill. I do refrigerate seeds to fool them into thinking they went thru a winter. If not frozen then they will not germinate. It's natures way of making sure they do not germinate until the beginning of next spring after falling in the summer. I may have to report you to the word police for that one. Where are you Jean !! And i have to scarify some seeds. Lotus seeds look like an acorn about 1/2" in diameter. They have a super hard casing about 1/32'' thick. The shell is designed to wear from wave action on the edge of a shore. I take a grinder and grind a little hole in this shell. The water enters and turns the shell into soft tissue in 3 days. Germination in 2 weeks. So the breach is a game changer. Lotus seeds were found in Egyptian tombs estimated over 5000 years old and germinated successfully.

Vernalization - yes I saw that. Bill was in good form yesterday!
I've had to scarify seed before, don't remember what type of seed they were, now.

Must be a Montana thing or that native blood running furiously thru those veins. The wetland seed of cattails, bulrushes, sedges etc usually have to be refrigerated/frozen and wet at the same time. Some seed have to be extruded through and intestine to germinate. Nature's key to unlocking the shell of life.

So, does this mean that James is going to come out of his shell & blossom? Rich The term is 'cold stratified' I believe Rich. Meaning seed has been subjected to the cold long enough to germinate when conditions are ready. Yes, I am outside a lot and i feel like i am going to blossom soon. I may need a shell first.

LOL, Dave! You can bet that jamesp is without electricity. Wow, I bet that entire state - the entire South - is in turmoil... When you never have to deal with weather like that, how can you possibly prepare?

When you never have to deal with weather like that, how can you possibly prepare? The power has been on for 2 hours-yeah !! Bet ya it goes back out. It changed to sleet. Freezing rain has quite for a while. If it warms up 2 degrees we will be in big trouble Jean. We are experiencing global freezing. Erog-Gore spelled backwards.

We are experiencing global freezing. Erog-Gore spelled backwards. James, if your power were to go out for an extended period of time (days? a week?), do you have a generator to use?
We experienced a power outage here in, I think it was Sept 2012. Not weather-related, but operator error at a power plant/switching facility in AZ. After living here almost my entire life, that was the only time I can remember that happening. People were going crazy, no ATMs working, traffic worse than a nightmare... It went off in the afternoon, they were saying it could be off for days. Fortunately they were wrong.
I ran the generator in my trailer on the driveway and ran an extension cord into the house to power the fridge, freezer and fan for the old dog - just the essentials, lol! The power was back on, in our neighborhood anyway, by about 10 pm or so. Since then, have invested in another generator - just in case. But ya gotta remember to keep gas on hand as well. It also comes in handy when you are gold prospecting and need electricity.

Power went out for 2 weeks back in 73'. It was real bad. but it was cold. So people put their food out side. If you leave the freezer close it will stay cold a long time. Filled 5 gallon buckets for toilet and washing . Cold is probably better then that Sahara Alien weather you have. It is a huge alien draw.
Generator is the trick. As Scott would say, Jean is bad azz.

Yeah, it isn't so cold here in September. Food was better off staying in the fridge.
It is currently 84 degrees here. Looking through slabs to find some good ones to use for belt buckles. Have to keep coming in and cooling down - a little. During the winter, the sun is so low in the sky throughout the day, you are in sun even when on the patio, mostly.
I'm thinking if the aliens come from outer space, where it's cold, they probably welcome the warmth here and California sunshine. (Bet they like the beaches, too.) And with all the nuts, flakes and freaks here, they fit right in, go undetected. You best get on their good side, James.

I have 'prominent' brows making me a good candidate. And long arms. My Dad used to tease me that my knuckles were dragging the ground. Well Dad, where did i come from? That silenced him. Be sure to post your buckles when done. I think you said you grind the rock to fit the setting. Whatever you do it will be right and look good. You know, we have a lot of Californians moved recently here in Atlanta. I like them. South Fulton County was on 60 minutes as a place sought after by African American population. They seem like great people. Sharp and neat and must have good incomes. Tyler Perry's house is close to me. I think it is the 2nd largest house in Ga. The biggest is E. Hollyfield and he is here in S. Atlanta too. When i (used to)go to the local gym there are many stars and pro athletes. I planted all of Evander's water features years ago. He didn't pay me so i slapped him. not really. He was great to work for since i never met him, just his garden manager. And he was Loggin's and Mesina's gardner Evander had bought in from California. I had to teach him the rules about planting in our dense greasy red clay. It was funny.

What in the hell does someone do with that much house other than try to keep up with the heating and cooling bills. What a waste. Jim

Yeah, but building it provided jobs for lots of people. I'd hate to have to keep it all clean and in repair.
