Well I got around to taking some pictures of the few rocks we have gathered. some in my earlier years but most have been found during last summers adventures. All the cool big rocks are outside in the gardens under the snow sorry about my picture taking skills in advance. raw garnet and perhaps a few rubys? no idea? river tumbled quartz random tumbled rocks from my childhood no idea except purple may be amethyst?? citrine right unkown left? rose quartz coal? No idea but it is cool more quartz from our one pocket we hit! That's all our good rocks I think? who knows what the boy has picked up in our travels hehe. As you can see I need to spend a lot more time researching how to identify rocks and the rocks that will tell me where others may lie. I know around here to look for beryl but that is about it. Been taking notes nonstop as soon as the snow melts off i know someone else is ancy to get back in the dirt. Thanks for looking and happy hunting! Matt

That second rock looks like banded chert to me.
That garnet is cool. Thanks for posting pictures of your rocks.

those garnets have really nice color for garnets !!! usually it is hard to get garnets of that color because they are too dark in color .. second looks like polish flint and yes i think the purple is amethyst .. maybe even amethyst sage .. and the one under that well that will probably start a fight ..lol nice rocks !!!

Hard to tell but second picture could be polish flint or a Botswana agate tumbled. Fourth picture the bottom one looks definitely like amethyst and the top left looks like jade but hard to be certain. Are you sure that is citrine in the fifth picture? Looks too grainy to be citrine and could be calcite or quartz. Picture number 8 (the blue) definitely looks like azurite. Cool quartz crystals and tumbles too.

I like the red ones. Please send some. Actually, those are the nicest garnets that I have ever seen for both colour and clarity. Many appear to be gem quality and would be welcomed by any faceter.
I think your Citrine is Yellow Aventurine. It has that Quartzite appearance to it. Beside it would be Peach, Raspberry, or Red Aventurine. Pick a colour, it comes in many of them.
Darryl.

Thanks for the responses! I have learned my camera has a Macro setting and was able to take a much better picture. For sure your suggestions are most welcome I have limited knowledge of rocks and minerals so I may call rocks by names they are not lol. Sorry Matt

The one to the right of the Amethyst could be red Tiger Eye, perhaps.

Acid is about dry and there was no reaction or change in the stone. gr these garnets come from the granite around here some we remove from the rock some are a result of panning in the creek behind our house. This spring we plan on going up closer to the head of the stream to see if we can find some bigger ones. googled ant hill garnet wow are those beautiful stones

I am going to say that there are no rubies. Rubies have a hexagon crystal structure and garnets have something entirely different. I see no hexagons. here is a classic hexagonal corundum crystal in red "ruby"

Thanks Tom Living up here in the white mountains national forest of New Hampshire, hence the username lol. out the back door is the creek out the front is 3,000 acres of national forest. Still sad our most famous rock fell a while back my son only saw it when he was 3 and most likely does not remember it.

I still have a few tumbles i did with a toy tumbler as a kid. They are sentimental. Bloodstone, crazy lace, adventurine. I know every one of them.
Always wanted to get back to it. 40 years later and i got big tumblers going to town.

Nice garnets, & I also would vote for flint for the tumble.

Hi I am well familiar with granite as I live not far south of the Canadian shield in Sasatchewan, I actually think granite is under rated as a stone for cabs. There is some sweet granit out there
