WOW, I'd definitely call all of those awesome! But especially love those first two, the clear makes them look like they are underwater. Great pics, James.

Those are beauties, amazing variety in that material, must be really fun to hunt. I am partial to the top two as well, and the last one with the little fort.

Nature's works of art turned into photographic works of art. First second and eighth being my favorites. Alien landscapes with crystal canyons comes to mind.

That was amazing, the acid jazz kicked on in my head as I drifted through those macrotic organic agates you posted. Sweet. That place is an agate gold mine Carlos. I collected a lot of 1-1.5 inch pebbles and sawed them after i casted them in concrete. I found the small pebbles to have the prettiest agate. Here they are after removing them from a concrete cast and mass sawn. Then i tumbled the mini-slabs.

I think i like taking their pictures more than anything Rick. They are like a captive audience, you don't have to worry about them going anywhere! Great subjects to be taking pictures of.
But still beautiful, nonetheless. You said you tumbled the slabettes from the pebbles that were mass sawn. Do you have pics of the finished tumbles?

I had a lot of fun grouting them so i tumbled about 35 pounds of baby slabs Jean. I segregated them so way. Here is a set of 93 yellow ones that are not macro but close up pics. You need to use sandless grout. Get w/me if you need to know. Grout/cement w/sand abrades the blade behind the diamond segments. I sperimented till i got it right. I have to say, that is a lot of stock to make cabs that are close to outside shape... And no one picks up the little stuff. It was on average better and tougher agate. www.flickr.com/photos/67205364@N06/sets/72157632268584567/with/8281712239/I eventually built a rectangular wood form 6" x 9" and 12" inches long so i could cut 6 x 9 slabs on the 18" saw. Those pebbles were a rush. Each slab was insane. I used kerosene as saw lub cause it is tough and cheap and the best lub i know of. Did not seem to ruin it(the grout). You got to let them set for at least a couple of days so the heals do not pop out and jam. Set too long and it may not break away. Never had any trouble though.

Yes, the photography can become addictive once you see the hidden mini-worlds inside stones in larger-scale images. My avatar is an example of how one fire agate looks in macro. Here's another: I have a fascinating image made by Tom Shearer of a special fire agate. I'll post it if I can find it -- I fear it may have been lost when one of my compact flash cards somehow became corrupted a couple of weeks ago. I'm hoping I made back-ups. Rick

The fire agate dances to it's own drummer. A class to itself. Be nice if were larger. Hope you find the other.

That new camera set up of yours is incredible! You could probable sell blow ups of your shots as posters to rockhounds, there isn't anything like that on the market that I've seen, although I haven't thought of looking until now! I love the info on how you got those pebble agates, you are such a pro!
