Hey I made it to my first rockhound trip on Tuesday with the Quartzite Lapidary Club!!! It was a huge success and included a cookout. You can look at pictures and all on my blog, its listed on my profile. We went to a Dumorterite spot and I got a 2.5 gallon bucket full of varied shades of blue. The really dark almost purple has been pretty much picked out. I got some that is chips that should be one cab wonders though. We also got some from across the wash that is dark greenish blue. One person found a piece of the rare pinkish white. Its across the road from Rainbow Acres subdivision about 5 miles from Q. You have to have 4x4 and pretty good clearance, the little washes are not deep but are steep! I got half a 2.5 gallon bucket of the dark greenish! Haveing a blast in Q!!!
Talked to Jim/Wampidy and he is about over the flu so maybe he and I can have a meet and greet soon.

Going to learn faceting, flint knapping and of course more wire wrapping this week at the Lapidary Club.
Loving the big Q so far!!!!

So glad you are having fun and learning a lot. Proof positive an old cowboy can learn new tricks. I've been following your blog and trying to comment although sometimes Wordpress doesn't cooperate with me. Wish I could have gone to the Dumorterite spot, I love blue rocks. Maybe I should join the rock club there one of these days. Tell Jim I hope he gets better soon. Not fun having the flu. Prayers continue for both him and his family.

Sorry about missing you but I had to flew da coop. I had been so sick and weak for so long I was afraid the place was going to kill me and I wanted to be closer to a hospital. Long story but the first trip was worse than a nightmare (I will explain in my Q summary later) Managed to get loaded, tanks dumped and headed north but had to stop in Parker and bypass the heater because it was leaking really bad. On the highway again and made it to Lake Have-a-shoe City before the brakes totally failed. I am still too weak (ate real food yesterday) to work on the pickup so it is in the shop getting a master cylinder and rear brake job. Had the front done before leaving Wyoming. The owner of the shop has let me park on his lot and I asked if I could stay a couple more days to rest up and he said "no problem". I gave his wife a bunch of pendants. I still feel more like laying down than sitting up so I will start a new thread in a day or two. I went 12 days with nothing but water and jello, the first five with only water. Jim

Enjoyed reading your blog, orrum! Got a bit tickled at Miss Sadie having a tough time finding a grassy spot. Poor girl. You did a fantastic job faceting the blue topaz (glass?) gemstone. You learned how to facet in 2 days?! Amazing!! Fascinating story about your faceting instructor. @wampidy, I hope you feel much better asap, and are home soon.
