Hey Dave great thread!!! I have heard coal miners in Virginia talk about round rocks with pretty rocks inside them when I was growing up. Now that I sell pendants at a flea market it still comes up in conversation... What do you know about this??

With all the erosion that has taken place, anything is possible! Where and what formation? In big mining operations fantastic minerals are ground into powder.

I just found two more that I had missed - the geodes formed in andesite, and the "wormy" Ocos.

Dave the mines would have been the old style long wall underground mines in the southern part of Virginia close to Bluefield and Beckley W Va.

Dave the mines would have been the old style long wall underground mines in the southern part of Virginia close to Bluefield and Beckley W Va. Then they are most likely the Sedimentary type Geodes from Mississippian times.
