Very cool Mark, dig the poppies! I have a neat starburst jasper from the canal zone.
Looking forward to seeing how the blue one polishes up!

Looks like a gorgeous granite to me. Yes Scott, when I first saw it I thought granite also, but it is sooo blue that I am confused. Luckily I saw about 3 more pieces in the river (I had to leave because my bags were heavy) so there might be quite a good supply if it turns out to be good stuff.

Nice, where there's a will, there's a way! I can't wait to see that blue one, too!

Wow, those are really nice. I like the color of that pink one in the sixth picture. The green and red unakitish (I just invented a new word!) one is cool too, different colors that the unakite I find. Can you bring all of those with you on the plane home?

I had to high-grade the stuff today, and may have to take another pass after my wife sees it all :-) Airline companies only let us take on a carry on, but I might just pay for an extra bag. My carry on willhave the heavy rocks, ha.

Look for a box when you get home. When do you fly?

Great finds. The last one is intriguing and looks like it might have nice potential. I also like the gray-green striped one. If those stripes are flat and go from side to side it I think some great "eye" cabs could be cut from it.

Those look similar to the agates I found on the north shore of Jamaica Mark. And I'm guessing the west coast of Panama has rock exposures as Costa Rica does. Fossilized coral along with other agates were dug at the Panama Canal. Here is a photo of an Ebay listing of agate collected at the Panama canal

Panama Poppy, super cool! I've seen nice agatized coral from there and some jasper but never poppy. That is beautiful material!.....Mel

Look for a box when you get home. When do you fly? We will be heading home in a week. Whew, lot to do before then. Will look for the box :-) Hey, Mel Sabre52 I like the name Panama Poppy, but given the drug reputation of Panama it might connote different things to some people.

Nice trip. I think I told this story before here but we had a character that sold rock at some of the local tailgates. He had a lot of beautiful rocks and when asked he would quite often say "Panama rocks". I finally asked him how he found so many different kinds of rock in Panama? He was stationed there in the Air Force and collected ship ballast rock along the canal. Rocks from all over the world.

Nice haul you've got there. It's always so interesting to see the variety of rocks and minerals that are unique to a particular area. That unknown blue one looks like Glaucophane to me...or maybe a massive form of Lawsonite. Be sure to post some pictures when you get around to putting a saw blade to them!

Beautiful finds from a beautiful location, panamark! The orbicular jaspers are really pretty and I love the pink one and the huge blue one. Is the blue one an agate by any chance? Looks like it may have some moss in it?

Looks like it may have some moss in it? Hi Jan, Thanks! The blue one is more granitic; fairly fine grained but definitely has some fracture planes and pseudo crystals in it. I will post pics of polished pieces. Also a friend will have it analyzed. I will let you know.

Good stuff Mark thanks for sharing the pictures. Can't wait to see what becomes of the blue and other ones too.
Last summer my boys went to a Costa Rica resort with their mom and they found a bunch of nice beach rocks and gathered some up to bring me...unfortunately they got seized at the airport when they were trying to leave. bummer
