Didn't realize I should post an introduction here, did a very short one on the wire wrapping page. Newly retired, been stringing rock beads for 3-4 years, starting wire wrapping about 3 years ago. Due to a nasty injury, all that stopped for almost 2 years (hard to concentrate on pain meds, even harder to focus while in severe pain...) Happily, most of that is behind me and I've dragged my husband into the rock obsession. we've starting rock hounding in the Arizona desert - don't really know what we're looking for but I pick up lots of pretty rocks. After joining the local Rock & Gem club, we started lapidary labs at the local CC and are now making cabs. Last week my hubby set up our own home grinding wheel - whoohooo!!

Hi Michelle Have you any recommendation on community college classes or similiar ? I'm considering taking one this summer. Thanks Ed Welcome to RTH I only have experience with the CCC here in Lake Havasu. Our Lapidary teacher has been making cabs to sell for 30 years, started teaching about 5 years ago. Based on that, I would say the look at the teacher's practical experience before signing up

Still getting used to the geography here in AZ - had to look up Wickenburg. Looks like you're about 100 miles away, will have to plan an overnighter in order to have enough hunting time. What pretty rocks are in your area?

Anyway I'm looking into the Mesa Community Center classes & Glendale Community Center as lapidary shop open to the public. Apache Junction Lapidary club seems to be very happening. But that mostly a seasonal thing. Sorry didn't mean to hi-jack your thread Enjoy Arizona wherever you be edmohs

No worries, Mr. Mohs!! A Lapidary clubs sounds great, is it active mainly during snowbird season? This is my first full year in AZ, I'm constantly amazed at how much the snowbirds impact our community life. Not much happening once they go home...
