James, your brine-soaked chicken looks mighty tasty. I see that "everone" in the family enjoys it LOL. That reminds me of a wonderful Weimaraner bitch who shared our household for years. I named her Gertrude in honor of her German origins but she became "Trudy." One day I'd made a bowl of soup for lunch and was interrupted by a UPS delivery at the front door. When I turned around I saw Trudy perched very ladylike on my chair, happily lapping up my soup. It made me wonder how many other meals I'd unknowingly shared with her! She was a great dog but we had to put her down. We miss her a lot.

To the nearest inch. She was a master of deception. Wondering about how much dog saliva you consumed over the years eh ? some things better left alone... Just don't think about the places they put their tongue !!

How do you know who was enjoying your dinner while your attention was diverted?

Collateral damage from dog ownership. They are worth the trouble I suppose. In my opinion they are very worth the trouble. Crazy about my hounds.

Definitely worth the trouble. But when we moved to our present location our yard space was really downsized. It would be punishment to keep a dog in our tiny yard but we were gifted with a Siamese cat who keeps us greatly entertained.
Mocking birds are currently nesting nearby and they really defend their territory. They scold us incessantly when we step onto our patio and it's really funny to watch the cat/bird battles when the cat checks out the yard. The bird dives on him very aggressively and at first I thought the cat was intimidated until I watched him deliberately goad the bird into attacking. The bird barely escaped a paw. We clipped his claws a little to make him more bird-and-lap friendly but I worry the bird may miscalculate one of these days.

Blue jays and mockingbirds amaze me at their vicious attacks. How can a 1/2 pound animal reek so much havoc. The mockingbirds in particular. I picked up a mockingbird baby as a kid-once. If your cat kills it's baby it will never forget.-battle on They can make some cats miserable.

Yes, our previous cat, Bill, was attacked so often by Mockers he finally refused to go outside when they were around. The most interesting Mocker battles around here are with crows. Crows started moving in 7-8 years ago and now they're everywhere, robbing songbird nests and making general loud nuisances of themselves. I've watched some really epic battles when they tangle with Mockers, who gang up on them and never give up until the crows leave. Crows are really smart, though, and work as teams too. It's a little startling to realize how many life and death battles go on daily in "peaceful" nature.

Laughing, they give crows hell. Grey squirrels can also be relentless. Harassing cats, making cats tail twitch and lowering ears. Sometimes cat grumbling lowly. Animals can be cantankerous.
