Great finds. I was at the swell in January and found a lot of the grape agate, even sone with the celestite. I've tried to make it to poison strip and yellow cat and only managed to hit poison strip at dark for about 30 minutes last month. I love the bright red and white fortification stuff.

Thanks for pointing me here. Didn't know you were on this site as well. You definitely got me anxious to take this trip! I hope the weather holds. I will be down there in a week if it does.

Is that all Curtis formation material ? Oh, and your agate in question does look like a ps after barite to me.

1dave Thank you for clarifying! I was curious if they had a name. Also I was wondering if you could confirm whether or not the specimen in the top left in the second to last picture was an agate pseudomorph after barite. I am a big fan of the San Rafael Swell. That one you mentioned IS known as agate psedomorph after barite, a lot of them I have seen are calcite. The redwood limbcasts, if they have crystal centers then they started as barite. Pretty interesting stuff. That place is rich in pseudo's. |

Hello Mateoj, I realize your post was from 5 years ago, but I'm wondering if you have any update on those fossilized coral balls. We recently found quite a few at the SR Swell, and I was wondering if I could tumble them. Did you tumble yours? Split them open? Any advice? I've tried several times to include a picture of our finds, but for some reason it's not working. koolrockmom I've tumbled a fair amount of this material and it tends to fall apart a little too much for me to be happy with the results. I prefer to cab it or cut and polish it for specimens. Welcome to the forum.
