Hello, friends!
You might wander what is about this post of mine.
Well, if you take a look a bit left to this text, you'll notice this is my 10000-th post here on RTH. So this is the milestone I'm talking about.
"So what?" or "Blabber poster!" you might say, and you could be right. But for me, those ten thousand posts and the years since I'm on this board left their mark in some ways I could have never imagined in the beginning.
Firstly, I became a member here because I wanted to find out techniques related to slabbing rocks and polishing those slabs. But by the time I was fascinated bu the beautiful cabs seen here and pretty soon I built my own cabbing machine, inspired by what I've seen here.
Not long after this, the first cab came naturally...
... and then, many others. Of course, together with the piling cabs occured the problem what to do with them and I was again inspired by the beautiful wraps seen here on the board.
After some unsuccesfull tries of classical wrapping, I realized this is not for me and I started to groove wrap:
With so many pendants, my "girls" - Ina and Ioana - were asking for some matching ear-rings, so here are some sets I've made:
So many pendants gathered, so even our cat, Sisi, wore one of them at that time:
I was very pleased when Ina jumped from the user boat into the maker one, asking me to show her how to cab. Here she is, pretty focused on the job:
By the time I noticed some awesome intarsia works here on the board and, again inpired by what was on the board, I gave a try in this direction:
I also explored the mix between metal and stone, mainly in some knives...
... and in some other creations as well:
As I repeatedly stated before, I could had never achieve what I did without being inspired by the talent, creativity and perfection which abunds through the pages of this board. But, beyond those qualities, I also discovered a joy to share the knowledge and the secrets. Members here are friendly and generous people. I recall now so many pleasant times when we used to be in Christmas gifts exchanges and in so many - some funny, some mind-boggling - contests. Maybe the picture below reminds to some of you such a contest:
'Till now I kept talking about rocks, and it's rather normal to do so given the theme of the board.
But what seems amazing to me is that the board not only enriched my knowledge about rocks but also changed our way of life, building real friendships and leading us to visit places we could never dream of.
What would have been our trip overseas, without meeting you friends? A great trip, no doubt, but by far not as memorable as these pictures make it:
I was also met my "neighbour", Zoran (zotica) from Serbia:
And we not only had the pleasure to travel through various places and to meet friends from the board, but also received a visit from far away: in the summer of 2011 we hosted Karen (karenfh) who came from Nebraska to spend her summer vacartion with us.
Welcoming her:
Around the table with our family:
Having fun:
Too much fun maybe:
I was also blessed to be able to share with you here the raise of our dream house, from start...
... to finish:
I cannot thank you enough for all of this continuous inspiration, altruism and friendship. I am blessed to be part of this unique place which, despite it's virtual, marked my life in so many real ways.
Yours grateful,
Adrian
