Great to see and had never even though about what clams would do. Very interesting. From Wiki, the word lithophaga, the genus of this boring clam means 'stone eater'. And it 'cheats' by drilling w/stomach acid dissolving the carbonate coral structure Gastrochaenolites is a trace fossil formed as a clavate (club-shaped) boring in a hard substrate such as a shell, rock or carbonate hardground. The aperture of the boring is narrower than the main chamber and may be circular, oval, or dumb-bell shaped (Kelly and Bromley, 1984). Gastrochaenolites is most commonly attributed to bioeroding bivalves such as Lithophaga and Gastrochaena (Kleeman, 1980). The fossil ranges from the Ordovician to the Recent (Taylor and Wilson, 2003).

Taking several from RTH, several from the Fossil Forum, and a joe pro knapper buddy next weekend if storms don't flood the river. Got one brewing out in the Atlantic that will hopefully turn and go dump elsewhere.

This one was the largest and required many cuts due to not fitting in an 18 inch saw vice. A little tricky to hit the cavities. Before(biggest on left of tail gate) Wow James, your tail gate is not straight. Are you abusing it?

Before(biggest on left of tail gate) Wow James, your tail gate is not straight. Are you abusing it? You can see all the small wear dents and scratches. That's from James, Mark. My dear wife was parked in the middle of 20 acres. Beautiful well mowed field. I mean a fine pasture. There was one giant pine tree smack dab in the center of the field, like 3 feet in diameter. Well guess where the bloody dent on the left side came from. I laugh every time I look at it. And she starts to pick up something hard and heavy to throw at me every time I laugh about it. It has been there for a long time and served as a great source of spousal irritation. Can't wait to show her your post.

Ha, LOL. Those terrible magnet trees.
Reminds me of my first truck ding. My wife has only once been so mad at me that she did something physical. One one that I know of :-). This was long ago and was my first truck, so I was a bit careful with it. Anyway, she was helping emptying a load of manure into the garden (bless her heart) and apparently we had a disagreement. I later noticed a really big dent in the tire well side that is inside the bed. I asked her how that happened. She said - "a shovel hit it!"
She feels bad about it, but we laugh at it now.

I'll take accidental over intentional any day. Must not give such deserved logic to my wife. I change my mind about letting her read your post.
