Those look like some well fed plants, interesting autopsy. Coons not only eat stinky stuff, they leave it too. We have two "raccoon rest stops" out back. Carol's brother and his wife came by, brought their little fifi dog, the dog thought the rest stops were great for rolling in. Master not amused. Like that movie too, thanks. Larry

Hmmm, not sure we need teachers! Some skills just come naturally! jamesp, your top several photos look like peanut butter in celery sticks. Never did like peanut butter. Universal instinct. No teaching required. Gug butts great substitute for peanut butter Pat. yum yum Bugs are very high protein. Much better than beef or fish. Just think of these as moth wraps.

There's a local school where a biology teacher asks his students to make a recipe using bugs as a main ingredient. He's a very popular teacher.
Most of us would pick the bugs out.
Read recently that frontier soldiers dipped their hardtack in scalding coffee to get rid of the bugs /maggots in the hardtack. Guess they didn't appreciate crawling protein !

Read more: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/67079/autopsy-gluttons-carnivorous-stomach-contents?page=2&scrollTo=759215#ixzz3AGyWPKQKI used very old pig manure that was dug from a wet pit to plant my water lotus in. It was so decomposed that it was mostly sweet soil 50% and bug shells 50%. Any plant that germinated in it grew to about record proportions. Calcium availability amongst other nutrients including micros were over the top. County agent that performed the soil test was perplexed by the rich chemistry of that soil.

Bug protein is stretching it Pat. At least being cooked makes it a bit more bearable I suppose. Equal proportions of spice and bugs may be a minimum. Bug meat loaf ?? Ground up so they are camouflaged perhaps ?

a version of those grows wild up here and some folks cultivate them, too. It looks as though yours are particularly well fed. I am thinking the ones up here should have loads of mosquitoes this year.

I'm reminded of an episode on Mythbusters, where they took an '87 Corvette, and let 2 dead pigs decompose in it for two months. They wanted to see if a car can get so stinky that no one will buy it.
Then they attempted to get the stink out of it. Man, that smell just permeates everything! It was basically ruined, however, they did find a buyer who was willing to purchase the car for spare parts.
Well, it HAD been a nice car... Talk about a loss of value, lol.

That's the kind of sh!t they do. Even though common sense dictates that the stench could never be removed, they still have to go through the experiment, to prove if the myth is true or false.
Poor Corvette, exactly! Eh, it's only a Chevy...

Man those plants are so cool! Very interesting post!.....Mel The pitcher plants with bright white tops attract moths on bright moon lit nights. The pitcher serves as a light reflector in the moon light. Moths are attracted to the reflected light and then to the elixir with in. The white topped pitchers will often fill to the top with moths and fall over at times over a 3-4 day bright moon cycle. Spring moon cycles can be seen in the column of bugs in the stomach, summer moon cycles gorge the pitchers due to the abundance of moths. Vegetative production directly related to bug availibity, white topped pitchers about always have the fullest stomachs and most growth mass. Best to close the greenhouse doors during bright moon in spring and early summer or white topped pitchers will be laying over and not salable. White topped pitchers:

The sarracenia minor is cruelest of all pitchers. Clear windows in the back of the top give the bug an illusion of escape. The bug tries to climb out thru the windows to no avail. Slowly tiring only to fall into the elixir below.
