Tommy, thanks for sharing the pictures. I think wire wrapping is definitely an art where everyone adds their own individual touch. I love how you did that last one. I just realized the links to the Etsy stores were also on the posts. I went to both yours and Chucks. What a bunch of beautiful cabs on both. I figured out where the Dumortierite cab went that you posted the other day. How big is that? I am thinking I may need that. I thought the Moss was awesome too. Glad you survived the earthquake. I am just north of LA, hope we aren't going to have one now.

It's around 35mm x 30mm - I always show the rock on a scale on the last photo. Let me know if you are interested and I'll give you a coupon code for a nice RTH Forum discount. Yeah thanks, it was a crazy day - we're 30 miles from Napa so all we got was a rude awakening with no damage, but we have a house in Napa that my wife's kids and their roommates live in and it got trashed. We spent the morning yesterday helping them lift the heaviest furniture that fell - there's still a massive amount of cleanup needed.

That would be super on the coupon. I looked at your facebook page. I love the abalone. I think I may have spent too much time at the beach in the 70's. Always been partial to Abalone. You do beautiful work. I have some Botswana Agate, OJ, and Crazy Lace agate that I bought online. I am hoping to learn how to cab when I join the local rock club here next month. They won't be the first ones I try though.

I almost missed these! Helpful hint- start a new thread with new pieces. No one will mind, at all. Those are some big cabs there. I like the last one best. Do you prefer to weave? I like the look of it, but it hurts my hands after too much.

:)They were all given to me except the last one. I like weaving a lot. I have been attracted to wire-wrapping for as long as I can remember. I like anything that will show off the stone. I took your advice, the colored wire is copper with a colored coating. I have been trying to do one a day. I can see in a couple of them my bails are starting to get better but, then you add new issues with weaving. On top of all that I am so critical of what I do.....so I'll keep practicing. In a few days, I'll start a new thread, with some more practice pieces. Thanks so much for looking, and commenting. I really do appreciate it.

Weaving can be a challenge when trying to keep the outside wires from bending in or out. What gauge are you weaving the bails with? It looks like your wire might be too hard. Soft wire is better because it conforms better and compacts better. One thing to keep in mind with bails, too, is the scale and size of the bail compared with the rest of the piece. For instance with those big stones, you'll probably want to go bigger on the bail for aesthetic reasons, but, also because the wearer might want to use something heavy and thick. Once you feel confident enough to try some silver or even some non coated copper, you'll see a much bigger difference in how the wire behaves. The coated wires are generally pretty hard. That's why nice curves and such are more difficult.

I had to laugh at myself after reading your post, seems I am always shooting myself in the foot. The colored wire is 20 gauge. The wire that I weave with is 26 gauge. I actually like working with 22 gauge. I think it's probably time for me to buy some sterling wire. I think I'll be happier with the end result. The bending in and out is a pain with the weaving and so is tension. I have done enough that I am hopelessly hooked on wire wrapping, so all your help is so greatly appreciated. I love everything you do.
