Scrap piece of copper. I liked the shape so I textured it with one of the gadgets that came in the kit I got with my rotary tool. Then I annealed it & this became my first practice piece to go through the rolling mill. I used a piece of rik-rak from some left over sewing supplies. Sooo now the rolling mill I got 2 months ago has been officially broke in!

Absolutely neat, who would have thought of rik-rak but you. Two months before your first piece? ?? 39don

Verrrrry nice! Lots of possibilities. Someday I will find a good used rolling mill.
Your first try and no slippage! You are a natural.

Very nice and it almost looks like it was etched! connrock I think Donnie has been using it for an old timey wringer clothes washer Tom. She has had that thing for 52 months and she finally made a jewel w/it. She will get me, going to the basement to hide.

James, James, James, come out of that basement NOW! It was only 2 months & no I wasn't using it to hang or wash clothes (not a bad idea though). I was hanging a pillow case on it!!!! Now figure that one out!!!
By the way thanks you all! Gonna try silver filled next. Maybe this time a fish on it........

Perhaps a slight exaggeration. It's good to aggravate a Floridian once in a while, especially if they get to live in the Keys.

When I was tot my mom was using the wringer on the washing machine on our back porch one summer morning. When she picked up the basket of clothes that were rung out and headed for the clothes line to hang them she said,,,Tommy,,,don't go near the wringer!Yeowwwwwwwwwww,,,,Tommy went near the wringer! LOL I think my fingers are still swollen from that episode! LOL
My guess is that the pillow case was hanging on the mill to keep the dust from collecting on it after it sat there for 3 years! LOL Headin to the basement,,,,,with James! LOL connrock

Your title had me worried, glad you weren't the first victim. I lost the tips from middle and ring finger to a rubber lab mill.
Nice work, looks like you're a natural. I'm taking silversmithing at the Rockhound retreat this year.

Your work is coming along nicely,,,,now that the mill has been "unveiled" and is out of the Dark Ages! LOL What are the dimensions of you latest pieces? The "look" you're getting reminds me of repousse in a way. Something about liver of sulfur,,,,,the copper has to be clean and free of any oils, etc. You can wash the copper in warm water, liquid dish soap and ammonia,,,pat dry and only touch the pieces by their edges. Good luck and have fun! connrock

those look like artifacts entombed with the pharoh's. Only their most prized possessions were chosen for this. I like how they don't look brand new, nor do they seem to be artificially "antiqued". Instead they just look old. Your methods are sound.
It seems like Donnie has grokked the rolling mill machine!
