aside from the afore stated benefits || shallow water = warmer water = faster growth. jamesp maximizing profits yet again! woot!! Do you still keep cichlids in between the pots for mosquito patrol?

jamesp when I first saw your title, I thought it would be photos of you relaxing, drinking beer That's a great system you have developed. I was wondering how your screed step would be useful here. Haven't come up with anything yet. We don't do volume plantings. Just elevating it and dumping rocks on it for rinsing would be useful here, though. Pat a smaller version of this could work if, say, you wanted to make 6-12 pots of something as gifts. Saw something you have growing really good and you want to share... then a smaller version of this might be the ticket!

@shotgunner, that's a good idea! Now for that smaller screed...

@shotgunner, that's a good idea! Now for that smaller screed... This washing system handy too. I wash soil off of plants(and grit off tumbles) when dividing them. I have a fiberglass shower bottom sitting on a table with various size (screed)screens to lay on top. That way the water is diverted out the short drain so that my shoes do not fill up with water. A screen sitting on a utility sink would be a doable mini-version. This a Home Depot special:

That whole concrete system gets drained about every other day during sell season. So i can walk out and pick plants for delivery w/out getting my sneakers wet. It is about 7000 gallons. The creek fills it back up overnight. It drains in 8 minutes. So the fish/mosquitos do not get a chance to establish there. The constant draining and filling also pulls oxygen into the soil. Helping to create both anaerobic and aerobic colonies of bacteria. Aerobic bacteria much more healthy for nutrient breakdown for plants to feed on. Aquatic plants in tidal estuaries are monsters due to drainage cycles due to tide effect. Beneficial bacteria off the chart in such estuaries. Beneficial bacteria devours pollution many times more than the plants can. But the plant roots provide habitat for the beneficial bacteria. Drain and fill not to well known in the nursery biz. Selling aquatics to water purification biz allowed me to get educated by many a PHD. They know the process, I know the plants and their root structures and nutrient loading abilities. Money flows from there.
