Hi Stoner, llana and other corundum freaks, while walking around at the show today I saw more tumbled ruby. This time I saw a necklace made of really big polished rubies, like an inch or more diameter. Beautiful necklace, looked heavy though. Anyhow, the size and shape of these reminded me of the stuff that I've got in my ruby rough and what it sounds like you guys have too. The stones were not transparent or translucent, but they definitely had a nice shine. Color was a shade of deep fuschia/pink like some of mine have. Also saw more nice ruby/zoisite polished stones. So, having seen these, I know it can be done. Don't worry about getting the results of the experiement, if it works, you will be able to hear me shouting without even using your computer! I might have brought in another new recruit, too, since I met someone who has also gotten a tumbler and started down our path of obsession......

Progress check on the experiment is not encouraging. This is one reason I haven't wanted to post details
Still a long ways to go, though.

Hang in there. I'm rootin' for ya. But hey, if it doesn't work, look at all the corundum you'll have to use with the rough grind.

Ha! I don't know just how tiny your stuff has gotten, but I'm anal enough that after washing the stuff, I've been very careful with using a fine sifter to get the tiny gems out of the grit residue. The stuff I end up with is nice! It's tiny, but that's where the decent looking gems are. I know that these things do have some value. Meantime, I'm throwing big chunks of the stuff into my backyard rock tumbles. It seems to help.

Never looked at new member threads. I'll look for them. Thanks!
