I just got a new slab of Condor Agate. Now the hard part. Do I leave it as is as for display or do I cab it. I think it would look great if I could make into one of those huge cabs like Bobby1 does. What do you think? Cab it or display it as is. Stu

That one's a display piece for sure. Polished up real good and back lit, that thing would be beautiful.

Thanks for your replies. I think I was a surgeon in a previous life because I tend to want to cut or grind everything I come in contact with LOL I ws hoping you all would have said cab it. Now as I never polished a flat surface only domed cabs. Can this be polishe on my 6" 6 wheel cab machine or does it need to be done on a flat lap? Stu

Ok, I'll be the enabler, cab it :>) It's a great specimen and it would be a world class cab.

Lovely slab! I vote for keeping it as a specimen.

It looks to big to cab. You might consider selling it or keeping it as unpolished.

Can this be polishe on my 6" 6 wheel cab machine or does it need to be done on a flat lap? If it is smooth I would try doing it by hand with tumble grit and a little water on a piece of glass, or on another flat slab. Add grit (a la salt shaker) often and it goes pretty quick... And yes display for sure. Cheers

I'm biased. I'd make a big elongated oval out of it. Bob

beautiful thing, that! I vote for polish and display. I'd put it someplace I could look at it and admire it every day!

I'm with the minority here & say cab it, cause there is another slab out there that's a sister, but cabbing it, that's a whole other level of unique for something that gorgeous,

Practice catch and release . . . throw it out to grow bigger!

I've got some of those as well ... I vote for the polish and display. It'll probably come out beautiful either way tho.

I vote for polish & display. You can always cab the polished slab down the road if you get the urge. Lynn

It's either polish and display, or make a giant "Bobby 1" style cab out of it. This would preserve almost the entire pattern of the slab and would only smooth its edges into a big oval. Anyway, I it would be pity to cut it into small cabs.

Polish and display is my opinion also... I like seeing a little bit of the cortex on the outside...

Go for the glass plate polish job and a small back light. You can always cab it at a later date if you ever get tired of admiring it's beauty!
If you cab it now, you will probably throw your hip outta joint trying to kick yourself later !
PLAY IT SAFE, and you can you can spend the money you save on hospital bills to buy more rock !
