James----just go buy it !! (so I don't have to)-you can take that plate off and put two smaller ones on ( should already have holes drilled in the center) or get a 35 # or 50# barrel---the new ones are 10 times that price I am supposed to pick it up on Friday snowdog, just to put you out of your misery. That base will vibrate a 50 pound barrel !!?? That alone is reason to buy it. thanks for the push. Will take photos.

The old aluminum hoppers can be sent to DP and be relined with "Plastisol". Or you can buy adapter to use the Mini Sonic hoppers. Thanks for your valued input John. Sounds like a good machine to invest in. Looks like a commercial grade design. if they cast aluminum for the project they meant business.

That's not what I think it is, that base will vibrate an LP tank ?? is that home made ? I'm afraid it is. I think i feel it shaking over here in Atlanta.

James
You will not regret stealing getting that unit. Can't wait to see what tubs you will build for it. I have tumbled very large slabs in mine. That is why I made the larger tubs. I have one I made from a 20 lb tank also. That one I cut a center piece out, from the long direction, to bring the sides in so it could be reshaped.
I know that Snowdog has the large tub and does large slabs also. One thing I will tell you is if the belts break get the right ones for the unit. Being just a bit cheap I thought I could save a buck by just using good O-Rings. Just get the right ones they seem to last a long time.................MrP

I would have thought the barrel had to be super designed by the guy in the back room. these slap on tanks are outrageous.

Congrats! Nice buy, I have been looking for one for a while. Tony Looks like the Viking is in demand. They used to build machines like tanks back in the day. Back before OSHA outlawed a man picking up over 20 pounds Industrial vibs often use hydraulic motors since they are less likely to burn up from variable loads that a vib can cause.

The Vikings are well made heavy duty machines I have 3 or 4 of them I am trying to back in working order with the 35 lb barrels. I have only one 35 lb barrel to use for fabricating a few more from. I plan on using fiberglass cloth with epoxy resins the line it with hard urethane rubber. There is a number of barrel sizes and configurations available. Check the Diamond Pacific site or catalog for more information.

Looking forward to a new chapter - Jamesp industrial Vibe tumbling adventure! Hope this machine is a good one! i will anchor it to the bedrock that goes to Scotland so that it will vibrate the rock walls on your high grass covered hills. If it is worn out, it will get fixed. Never knew they made a vib that vibrates about anything. Got to keep Ian entertained. Us southerners and Scotts have to have subtitles for normal english speaking people to comprehend brother.

MrP...great job on this barrel you have made for the Viking from the propane tanks, very inspiring. I also makes a larger barrel size than I was aiming to make....me thinks I will have to follow your lead on this. Do you find much problem with slab breakage? Do you find cushioning material necessary?
jamesp....that is correct....well made and very worthy of a redo. They have been around for over 50 years which says they last and last. They have a full size industrial size/style motor. This with simple, easily replaced pillow block bearings and adjustable counterweights for tumble action adjustment make them a good choice for me. There is also two small drive o-ring belts which change out easily. On these belts...it appears that urethane material is preferable over rubber due to stretch. The nice thing this material is available in small bulk rolls 12 or 25 feet which allows for making your own belts (melt and join together); a good option to the $20 plus shipping from DP for a single pair.

Do you find cushioning material necessary? Slab breakage is not a real problem. I use this one for large slabs so they are generally thicker anyway. I have a lot of cushioning material because of all the tumbled pendants I make. I just take all my saw scrap and keep tumbling them...........................MrP

Picked it up today. Spec plate says 8 pounds. Never heard of an 8 cap pound Viking. Liner looks great. Old, but does not look used much. Looks retro, and designed by WW2 engineers. LOL. What a tank.
