I have quite a few Lightning Stones from this summer I have collected. Way more than I can use and I need some new material for making sphere stands. I'd also like to try my hand at sculpting some rock. I would like to trade a medium flat rate box of Lightning Stone, you can chose the sizes (small, med, large up to several pounds) and I'll try to pick out the best ones suited for your desired usage. I am looking for softer stone such as alabaster, marble, pipestone, soapstone, calcite, or any other material in that softer range that might be cool and somewhat easy to work with. I'm also interested in cullet/glass rock. I'm in particular need of some rock with some red in it, but I'm interested in all colors (I just have a few spheres I need to match with some reddish stands!). I'm posting some pics of some rough rock and some finished Lightning Stones. It's probably my favorite stone to work with, mainly because it's a local rock but I find them quite interesting and there really is quite a variety to them. If you're interested, please respond with pictures.

I need to get some of these... theres a local spot that has hundereds of them... only problem is they are large (basket ball size) and its 2 mile hike through muddy crap.. Its also in bear country so i wouldn't be going by myself.. ours are found where cone-in-cone is found in massive quantities also... is this the same accourence for others?

Hi rattlehead - if your request for a trade does not pan out I would be interested in purchasing a MFRB from you if you have some for sale. PM me a cost if you are interested.

nope, but Pat googled it for me and showed me pics. Looks like mud?? The lightening stones are mudball septarians, but those are different than others as they have siderite in the mud and almost pure white calcite making a high contrast cutting grade material. Would love to see your cone in cone and septarians too. Maybe you can borrow a quadrunner to get in and out safely!!

When I did last go I was with people that had a atv. If i had an atv though I don't have a vehicle that can tow it. I only have 1 piece of ok cone-in-cone, no pic yet as it is where my lapidary equipment is. All my better good cone-in-cone rock was stolen by a few guests that came on our rock club trip that were not apart of our club (I say stolen because one guy took the pile i had next to my boots and another person took them out of the back of the truck we came in); Because of that we are not going to take people that we don't know.. I have a few pieces that i put in my backpack that were small single cones which i might have around. I did not take any septarian nodules back. There was another fossil like thing I found a lot of... I need to ask my geologist friend what it was again. I'll post pics in a new thread.

I may be interested in some Travertine. I have no experience with that material. I would be looking at trying my hand at a little bit of carving and making stands for the spheres I make. I am also limited by my saw size if I would have to do any cutting, which is only a 10 inch. For stands I would need minimum 1.5 inch cubed. If you had something in those ranges, that would be great and I'd love to see some pics.

If you want to sell some, I'd also be interested in a sfrb of small stuff for cabbing and carving pendants.

Small FRB, Medium FRB? equal size box trade? The travertine I have is a travertine Onyx blend. Carves well, cabs well, takes a nice polish. Here are some pics of some slabs to show what it looks like, but I have thick sliced chunks I'll trade.

Any interest in mahogany obsidian? I'm afraid not, only because I have a bunch on hand right now.
