Happy Birthday, and many more! At 78 I'm starting to wonder how many more I really want. 120 doesn't sound all that attractive any more. But THANKS for the sentiment!

You think making pet wood takes a long time? Try figuring out the entire history of the planet, or even worse, how the zeolites form and are related! On the latter, first you have to understand the feldspars. Once you have that down, the zeolites resolve into merely a nightmare.

Dave's mind is a force. It may be a black hole. Sometimes it feels like it - Especially when I go searching for my best friend's names!

Dave's mind is a force. It may be a black hole. Sometimes it feels like it - Especially when I go searching for my best friend's names! Am certain friends abound in your life. Especially the ones that like to aggravate you in return. Heated a chunk of rhyolite to 600F last night.(max temp for my oven) Reduced it's ability to absorb a water drop tremendously. Made it more knappable, and with a much less abrasive face at the fracture. Not much color change, but better definition of the band lines, and the number of band lines, and enhancement in the yellow/orange zone, an important color in this rock. Looks like 700F is needed, which is normal for grainy material. With the grain size being reduced it should polish easier and shinier. Do not understand why such a low temp alters a rock's graininess so much. A phenom. food for the black hole

I hadn't thought about chipping rhyolite. Mixing materials usually lowers the melting point for alloys. Any pics?

1dave I've always thought getting to 100 sounded good. Don't know about 120! However, I'd rather have 47 years more than just 27.
