Been awhile, for sure! Well, I'll tell ya. I quit smoking!!! YAY!!! BUT, it has taken all of my energy and concentration to do it. I had to stay away from the computer for a long time. One of my biggest smoking triggers was when I wrote- which was on the computer. Also, I have been unable to make any jewelry, except for 2 pieces. I am trying to get my mojo back. Honestly, sometimes I feel like I will never make anything again. My muse has been that far gone. All of my best advice to others has not worked. My muse is 100% gone. So, although it is a good thing that I quit a 40 year habit, now I have lost my muse. I know it will be back, though..... eventually.

Tela the best part is - you only truly quit once! I did it with chew many years ago, and the habitual part was way harder than the physical part. I am confident you will find your muse again in something, your artistic being is to big to contain. Hopefully it is in wrapping and cabbing, but who knows where it will surface. Cheers

Have missed you and your work, Tela. Congrats on quitting smoking, it's about the best thing you can do for yourself!
Don't worry, your muse will return. She's just taking a little break...

ditto what Jean said! Your mind is crapping out for a bit, but your body is already starting the recovery! Soon your mind will get with it too. Congrats, that is a HUGE accomplishment!!!!!

Congratulations! I know what you're going through because I quit after about the same number of years as you. You have to *want* to quit. I "quit" many times but it didn't last because the desire really wasn't there. Finally I told myself: "Self, you don't smoke any more, it's a nasty, ugly offensive habit." And I didn't. As for the Muse you'll never lose it. Analyze the kind of work that used to kick off the smoking reflex and try to do things differently for a while. Who knows, a change in routine may head your Muse off in a new yet undiscovered creative direction!

I listened to a TED today about legalizing drugs. One of his points was the drug with the stickiest addiction and is hardest to beat is tobacco. So, instead of tobacco, take up cocaine!
OK, just foolin' around. I am happy for you. I cannot be around smoke, it makes me swell up and difficult to breathe. Glad to know I have one more friend to hang out with!!

I sure am proud of you for quitting smoking. I have never smoked but had friends who quit or tried to quit so I know it's hard. WTG!! I know your muse will be back, hard to keep a good one down ya know ;-).

Hey Tela, So good to see you on here again. I was thinking of you last night. My brother quit cold turkey after about 40 years as well. it's been about a month and a half now. His wife says he's doing well. I always look forward to your work. You're one of my inspirations. The rocks are calling your name...................... Deb ps.... I'm really happy for you...

Congratulations on quitting. I know what you're going through because I just quit in June after about the same amount of time. I'm sure your muse will be back. I never really had one so I'm still kind of wandering around.

Thanks y'all!!! I wasn't even going to mention the quitting on the board, but I'm glad I did! Thank you for the support! Especially, too, where my vacant muse is concerned. I quit cold turkey and have not cheated once. I'm quite pleased with myself. I have never felt more certain about quitting in my life. It feels right and it feels like my time. The beginning of the quit was so flippin' easy. The nicotine withdrawal is long over with. Now, undoing the HABIT is the hard part (like you said, bsky4463). I can do it! I know I can. But, I won't lie, I have my share of tough spots. panamark Thanks for the great picture! gemfeller Yup, I've quit a few times before myself. Those times feel real different from this one. This quit began in my head. I was just ready for it happen. Plus, I have a different set of reasons that are working great for me this time. I will try working something totally different and see how it goes. I haven't tried that, yet. @shotgunner Cocaine maybe I could look into that instead.... LOL! Naw- that costs even more than cigarettes. Muse is that little spark in you which leads you to create. Maybe you could call it your imagination or inspiration. It is after the Greek Goddesses (see previous link). Thanks again, everyone! Y'all rock!

Congrats on kicking the habit. I feel like your suffering a form of grief. You have in effect lost a fourty year companion. Give it time and remind yourself how much better off you are without your old friend. Your muse will return.
