Anyone have any exact leads near the Talladega National Forest? We have the location guide for Rockkounds PDF, and everything seems about east of the Forest. PM me if you don't want to openly disclose it.

We found garnets and what looks to be a type of jasper (both different locations)

This is so I can post the pics as I go along (pics coming tomorrow folks).
Went to the Talladega area on a quest to find garnets. Found a supposed spot outside of Talladega where garnets were supposedly in green schist matrix. No luck there.
We then went to Lineville (Gold Town) paid $5 per person and went down to the creek to look for garnets and metal detect for gold. We found about 30 loose Almadene garnets, garnets still in matrix, and a cooking grill that was buried. Also found an old gold mine that was started and not finished.
Went up to Patty Quarry (said hello to some well known forum members), found a few good pieces then headed to the road cut in TN. On the way we found a huge rock slide and found some cave like formations on rocks, some black flint with red inside all on a gray matrix, found a couple fossils, and then found some geodes at the road cut. Just our luck on the road cut--we only had about ten minutes of daylight and the rest was found by flashlight. Side not to anyone going there or back there: your dump piles have been sodded over.
We also found more slag glass with some unique purple and white stripes. Awesome times this past weekend. Def didn't come back empty handed.

The black and red from the rock slide: Some reddish purplish jasper? we found off the road near Anniston: An ice flower we found while looking for garnets in the cold on Saturday morning: The mine at Gold town: And the fossils: I'll have to take more pictures tomorrow when I have daylight and am rested.

Cool ice crystal. Years ago, up at Villa Rica when they were just grading off the property for a Walmart, the wife and I went to check it out. Thought I had found the neatest crystal array in a pocket until I went and tried to blow away the loose dirt grains. Saw it melt. It was nice but fooled me good.

Looks like you found some great things on your weekend adventures! Was the I-24 rock slide on the left as you are heading up Monteagle Mountain? Enjoyed seeing you at Tonya at Summerville too :-)

I saw that slide last month when my daughter and I were heading to the University of the South for a college tour. I've been wanting to go back and check it out and now you have given me all the more reason to do so.

I've been wanting to go back and check it out and now you have given me all the more reason to do so. There are cave like formations on some of the boulders. Sadly we could not lift those. I'll post some of those pics later

From the rock slide Wasn't sure how to photograph them, but she could almost stick her whole hand through that hole. Super smooth

Another pic from the rockslide. I forgot all about these "cavers" that we stuck in a backpack We went back for Xmas Eve and got a basket full of the black flint with the red spots in the middle. Also found pieces with blue swirls and orange too. Great day to go as all the flint was all wet (raining) and looked like glass on the ground. Will post pics of flint later
