I tried polishing some slag glass chips, just can't seem to get a polish on it in the vibe, but some of the pieces glow under a black light. Have you tried a prepolish after your fine run and before your polish ? Iv had lots of luck with glass in my vib but for a nice shine seems I can not get it without the extra stage . I believe james has talked about this some where in one of his great posts thanks braders, I will try again with a different prepolish. what makes some of the chips glow under a black light?

Jan 13, 2014-- Green Barrel looks really good. Still some with pits and vugs, but some are def ready for next stage. Added 3/4c water, 3Tbsp 60/90, and the ceramic triangles from HF. Took out the glass. Purple Barrel has some nice pieces too. Removed glass, added 3Tbsp 60/90, ceramic triangles, and 3/4c water. They definitely don't look purple here This one actually had a shine to it wet and went across the rock as I moved it. Sorry for the crappy photos. I couldn't capture what I was seeing in a photo. Def looks better and brighter purple in person.

Jimi, I use similar blue bottle glass as filler, mine is very hard and does not round fast. Looks like the slag glass rounded much faster, as does obsidian, they are most likely much softer than that bottle glass.

Jim, the blue glass I'm using are the blue Budweiser bottles I find while hounding. From what I've seen it's ready for the vibe in 5 days.

Been a little over two weeks since I've touched my slag (have touched other things a lot sooner than 2 weeks ha ha). ANYWAY..... Jan 28, 2014-- Barrel 1 Green-- Grit had broke down better than my harder Jasper's. I removed quite a bit of green, added a few more green, threw in some glass I found over the weekend with jamesp and a couple handfuls of prewashed garnets and ceramic pieces. Added 3Tbsp 60/90, 4oz water and stated above Barrel 2 Purple- Took out purple, added more purple (with smashed chips) and a bottom piece of glass. Added 3Tbsp 60/90 and 4oz water

Jan 29 2015--
The slag I pulled out yesterday (green and purple) made it into the vibe with 42oz of glass pebbles (from the dollar store). It may be carrying more the 4lbs in it, but grit looks like it's sticking on everything and it has good movement! Also added 2 Tbsp Borax and 2 Tbsp of 120/220 grit. I'll keep ya updated

I took out 14oz of the glass pebbles. I think there was too much in the vibe and it was clumping together. Had to spray multiple times yesterday and a couple today.
I added 2 Tbsp 120/220 and 1Tbsp of sugar

17oz of green/purple mix slag--120/220 for 2 days with a clean out and recharge each day. Jan 31 2015-- Took out the glass media and added ceramic media for the prepolish. Added 3lbs of small ceramic media, 1tsp 500AO, and 1tsp borax. Here's what the glass media looked like after day 1 in 120/220 and removal of 14oz. FROSTY! Wet out of the tumbler Going to leave it all in there for 4-5 days no clean out or recharge. I put 1 of each color glass pebble in there too just to see how shiny it will get.

Slag has been in prepolish since Saturday night. I pulled out a piece this morning to check out the shine. This is a purple piece dried: I tilted it slightly so you can see the shine all over the piece of glass.

Well done Jimi. Does some of the slag have a lot of bubbles in it ? No. Some pieces have a few bubbles, some have none, and some have black inclusions.

Well done Jimi. Does some of the slag have a lot of bubbles in it ? No. Some pieces have a few bubbles, some have none, and some have black inclusions. In Helen Georgia there is a touristy rock shop. That guy had a wild assortment of colored glass. $10/pound. craziest colors ever. Enough to cover a tennis court. Killer rocks from all over the world. On south side of town, west side of road. You guys stop in there some time, Helen is a mimic of a German/Alpine town, covered up with tourists.

Feb 5, 2015 I'll show more detailed and up close pics later tonight. The burnish was a success. A lot of the green had tiny exterior holes and the AO500 seem to settle in there nicely. I didn't see it as a problem because it made the stone look more like goldstone with the white specs. I washed everything last night after having 4 days in AO500 and a Tbsp sugar. Last night I filled the barrel up with water added glass and ceramics back in and dumped maybe only half the water. I added 1Tbsp Borax and 1Tbsp white sugar. I forgot about only having 1/4c water for burnish until after I started the Lot-O back up. But you know what? This turned out even better! The glass slowly moved from the very center to the sides and got almost all the AO out of the small pits. Of course there are a few green pieces where you can still see white, but I'm not hating.
