Nice haul! Didn't know that sheaves is another name for pulley, or is this a special kind of pulley? Sheave is proper I believe Ann. I think a pulley is more like a hoist, like a rope pulley for lifting. Sheave is drive train part, to carry a belt to rotate something. Seems to go both ways though, pulley: A simple machine consisting essentially of a wheel with a grooved rim in which a pulled rope or chain can run to change the direction of the pull and thereby lift a load. A wheel turned by or driving a belt. Sheave: : a grooved wheel or pulley (as of a pulley block) Sheave is proper, it is the grooved wheel in a pulley block. Terms used loosely.

The thrill of the hunt! Anybody who is a collector has that hunter gatherer instinct... women are just as gifted with that particular instinct as men. Probably why we all hunt rocks, right? I think it why so many women seem to love shopping... hunting down the bargains... gathering them in. I don't go to stores, I go to garage sales, resale shops, flea markets, auctions, and yes, I'd leap at a chance to go on a junk yard foray. Why should the guys get all the good stuff? There are so many situations where a woman packing makes sense too James, if ya know what I mean.

My fault, I bought it for her for self defense. Then looking at crime TV, it's the spouse ya gotta watch LOL. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot... yes, intrinsic behavior. And I told my buddies if they would take the wife to the junkyard it would keep them out of the expensive malls so much. "feed the need", blast their endorphins w/a syringe full of cheap deals. A super high. Y'all are peculiar birds. It's fun watching them climb through the dirt and grime. Exciting actually Nothing hotter than a dirty woman.

Awesome haul James! I love a good junk yard ... or thrift store There is one industrial yard that always has a hopper full of about a 100 fractional HP motors. Atlanta has a great crack population that collects metal and motors and brings it to the scrap yard. Crazy way to build a scrap yard.

I didn't know junk yards bought used wheels? ? 39don These are liquidations and factory closings. Mostly industrial stuff, nothing automotive. Those are old lead babbit wheels, they were stacked in a dark corner for 20 years. Apparently corundum was in, alum oxide relatively new invention. Break them up and they time release for weeks in the rotary tumbler. wicked grind rates. Had tried that with AO, but it does little to agate. Looking close it appears sapphire ? corundum ? red and blue particles are in them.

You mean you plan to mill somehow those grinding wheels to turn them into SiC powder? How do you plan to do it?
