You guys are awesome when it comes to answering questions! I have an on going issue that I'm finally fed up with(I'm tired of having to empty my 5gal bucket so often because of all the water being sent to it). I have a Crown Lapidary cabbing unit. Everytime I use it water sprays on all 4 wheels. Always has even after I took it all apart and cleaned the "drippers". What do I need to do to replace this water system? I don't need original parts by any means, just functionality. Here are some pics I couldn't find this four way valve at the big box stores just the single ones. Any ideas?

If you have a good hydraulic/pneumatic shop around, they might be able to help. Take your pictures along to give an idea of what's needed.

Is there any way you could place individual brass on/off controls on the hood (similar to the ones on the Covington units) and/or possibly reroute the water lines, broseph82? Not sure what the piece is called that connects the on/off controls. We have a lot of members that have refurbished and built their own cabbing units, and hopefully one of them will read your post.

Those are needle valves. If you can take the needles all the way out, try running some Lime Away through everything, and soak the needles in a little bowl of Lime Away. Chances are you have a hard water lime buildup on the parts that's preventing the valves from shutting all the way off. While the needles are out, polish them with 0000 Steel wool.

jakesrocks I've done that with naval jelly. We cleaned it thoroughly needles included. They also tend to loosen up when in place. No matter how tight they just don't keep the water off. I've bought some pieces from HD and hopefully this will work out. Pics will come if I'm successful.

You could cut the intake hose lines on each individual outlet midway and insert a cut off valve from a pet shop with hose clamps on each end. Wont have to mess with the metal fitting then. Updated ...Sorry I mean pull off each hose and add in a cutoff valve and bypass the connector all together.

If the valves fit loosely in your hood, the nuts that are used on lamp fittings will fit the pipe thread. Brass flat washers for lamps will work as well.
Since I have more than 1 machine I'm rebuilding, I went on ebay and bought bulk packs of the fittings & valves I needed.

What I came up with. Not the prettiest, but no leaks and I can finally keep the water from spraying out of every hole.

Glad you found a cure for your cabbing machine's ailment, broseph82. How are you getting water to your unit? I wanted to ask you if one of the washers is sitting (just a little bit) on top of another one, or is it the angle you shot the pic that makes it looks like that?

The store ran out of the bottom pieces and I have a cap on it currently (not shown). Thanks

broseph82, Jimi, if it isn't leaking, I don't think I'd worry about it. As the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it..." How are you getting water to your unit?

broseph82, Jimi, if it isn't leaking, I don't think I'd worry about it. As the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it..." How are you getting water to your unit? I have a splitter at my washing machine, using an industrial hose around the garage, pressure reducer, and another splitter for both machines. And... If you look at the tops you can see the far left one is longer on the tightening rod. I didn't take Into account the length of them so I got wire cutters and trimmed them back so I can freely loosen and tighten

If you ever need to do this again, the plastic air control valves they sell at the pet shop for aquarium air Are excellent and inexpensive replacements. Those old ones of yours? They too are aquarium air valves, but they stopped making them years ago. They also come in singles, doubles, triples, etc etc up to 6 way's. Also, to reduce the water pressure, I use a $20 swamp cooler pump. Been doing it that way for about 20 years, still using the same pump. And I use plastic buckets... 3 gallon for supply side and 5 gallon for waste. That way I don't accidentally overflow on to the garage floor. And a 3 gallon fill up usually lasts me a couple hours as long as I don't let water run where I'm not working with plenty of water supplied to the wheels. I usually have to keep the valves only 1/2 way open. The waste water and crud gets stirred uo and goes to feed the trees, and they seem to love it! Hope this helps! Those brass ones are impossible to find!

Just a FYI. Those needle valves with the round knobs are still made, but expensive. Anything from $17.95 with plastic knobs up to over $100.00 each in all brass. A simple google search turned up bunches of them.
