The slabs are very solid.in the pics there appears to be pits in the darker areas, there are no voids except in pic 2 there is a vug with chalcedony. Dave

Wow pretty material! It's easy to see why psilomelane is sometimes called black malachite. Definitely a messy stone to work though, that's for sure.....Mel

Ooooo! Me likey Psilomelane! Don't walk away from your saw while cutting it though~! It gums up the blade and will quit cutting while the feed keeps pushing it into the blade, so the blade must be dressed.....A LOT!. ask me how I know this and yes, it does a number on your oil too:'(

Yes radio freshly dressed blades are in order for that little beast.when I was done slabbing it,it looked as if I had viced up an inkjet cartridge and slabbed it.lol.broseph.the matrix is almost like concrete.you can see a portion of it where the alligator clip is holding it.as far as sending a slab, that material is pretty pricey. that is really a nice rock. Can't wait to see what you do with it, perfect centerpiece with Silver mounts. I guess I should start looking at the pieces of psilomelane I find a little closer, I never realized there was this kind of potential in them! too cool!

Dave I walked away for less than five minutes when I heard the motor change sounds as the blade stopped cutting. I have several slabs probably 1 1/2 X 3 inches of knock your socks off Crown of Thorns mine material. A couple of them are drusy and have the shape of a Sturgeon in them. I'll have to dig them out and take a pic one of these days

Dave Supposedly it can be found a couple hours away from me. Just curious what it looks like. Everything has a price and everyone has a budget. Let's be more positive around here I take it from your answer that was a no, but if you decide you'd wanna sell a little bit feel free to PM me please.

Woah, that's a beautiful psilomelane slab, deserthound. What jewelry pieces do you have in mind for it?? Haven't heard of psilomelane being called black malachite, Sabre52, but understand why it is called that. Pretty cool. I haven't cabbed any of it before and wondered if it has an oily smell? I cabbed some Porter Plume agate and it had a funky oily smell to it. broseph82, whereabouts is it found in 'Bama?

Thank you, broseph82! Is that a page from "A Location Guide for Rock Hounds in the United States" by any chance?

Thank you, broseph82. Imagine a lot of the places are probably off-limit or no longer accessible now?
