I just had a malignant melanoma removed from near my right eye this week. Just a reminder for all of us that get out in the sun a lot to please take a few minutes and check your skin. I have to go back in to have even more of the area cut out as the Doc does not think she got all of it. I was lucky on this one as we got it early. Let's not take any chances. Just something to think about.

I lost a very dear friend to melanoma. His was found early. Please do not get complacent and think this is over. There is a vaccine, consider getting it now. That is a very aggressive cancer. This is not over for 10 years of being clear. Hoping for complete eradication. Best wishes amigo.

Best wishes for a complete recovery phoenix1647, keep us posted, i know many of us will pray for you. thanks for the warning. I can add my voice to the chorus. I had basal cell cancer removed from my eyelid rim several years ago. I am in my 60's and when we were kids we were encouraged to go out and stay in the sun because it was good for you. Today we know moderation is the key. I never wore hats, sunscreen, or sun glasses before but I wear them religiously now. A pretty cheap piece of insurance in today's market.

Go out side and play...wow...heard that a lot when I was young. I am 68 and this is the 3rd cancer I've had removed. The other two were not malignant and are not showing any signs of returning. I try to keep up with my health issues. We got this one early, but still have to go back to have more cut out of the area just be sure they got it all.

My friend was 58 when they found his first. It was quite small and was removed in an office visit at once.
Do your research on this terrible disease. It must not taken lightly. I hope I am wrong.

Point taken , after spending way too much time mowing in the sun last summer unprotected I ended up looking like my Hispanic wife. Not bad for a guerra (white guy) or so I thought. I noticed a spot on my forehead a couple weeks ago and will be making an appointment tomorrow thanks to you guys. No more for me, jus sunscreen and a new hat instead of those ball caps.

Sure won't hurt to have that spot looked at. Could be nothing but sure not worth letting it go. I never used sunscreen and seldom wore a hat. From now on, it's hats and long sleeve shirts when outside. Sunscreen too. We should all be more careful when outside. None of us are getting any younger ya know.

OK..I go back on the 12th and they are going to do what the doc said is an "insurance" cut. Meaning, they are going to cut out a little more around the area and a little bit deeper just to make sure they got it all. Doctor said that was normal procedure for them to do.

I've had 3 pin head sized frozen off my face and one 1/2" diameter cut out of the back of my hand. Don't give them a chance to grow!

Had my second surgery for that cancer this morning. I do not know how deep they went, but they made a 1 1/2 inch long cut and does it ever hurt. Sure hope they got it all because I guess I'll sleep in my easy chair tonight. Took some tylenol for the pain but it is doing nothing. Time for something stronger.

Thanks for the update, and I'll be keeping you in my thoughts. Also a good reminder to me about sunscreen, even though my wife tries to remind me all the time.

I wish to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers concerning this cancer, it is much appreciated. The only anger I feel is for my lack of following good advice about using sunscreen and long sleeved shirts in the sun. Just too many years being hard=headed I guess. I am not complaining about the cancer because complaining just won't change a thing or make it any better. I know more cancers will be coming sooner or later. Gonna try my best to stay on top of it and do what has to be done. I do hope that all of you will see this as a learning situtation and start keeping a close eye on yourselves. Get them early before they become malignent. Also, keep an eye out on all your family and friends. If you see something that just don't look right, make them get it checked out. I give you this promise: if you spot something on my skin that your are concerned about and say something about it, I will not be offended.
Thanks again for your concers and comments. Those of you who are going in to get spots checks out, I am proud of ya. So lets all do what we know we need to do.
Now...lets get out in the sun and find more rocks.

It started off as a small spot about the size of a pencil eraser. Don't know why they needed to cut so damn much.

I feel for you! My dad had numerous cancers cut, burned on his face for over 20 years. I have had some frozen on my ears.Over the last 6 years,my outdoor attire is a fishing hat. Should have been wearing that instead of ball caps all those years. But the damage has been cumulative over the last 65 years.Just have to keep a close eye on it! Too serious to ignore. snuffy

It started off as a small spot about the size of a pencil eraser. Don't know why they needed to cut so damn much. Because leaving even one cell behind means the cancer will return. If this happens the next time may not be easily removed. It can return in any organ anywhere on the body. If you are interested I'll share my observations of this having witness a close friend pass from melanoma. You must not take this lightly. Your general health and healthy habits benefit the cancer as much as you. melanoma don't play.
