Butt cut from NC smaragdite on my new saw More on the inside: What we thought may have been pet wood from NC jamesp even said he thought it looked like it on the outside Same rock different side A close up of orbs And the 3rd side Pretty cool piece I cut today. Nice and solid except for the obvious line. Slab from Patty quarry I really like this half/half ( snowmom) First quartz I've found that didn't have multiple crack lines on top And a bowl full of almandine garnets that were soaked in iron out for a few days and rinsed

You need to get an UV Flashlight. The light streak near the bottom of the photograph is likely to be corundum and will fluoresce red/pink with the UV light. I've bought several through the years and that one is my favorite!

WHAT NEW SAW?? What did I miss, what did ya get, where is it posted?!!! Ha I kept quiet about it. It's a Covington 16". I didn't want to jinx myself. I've had to wait a couple weeks for it to get to me and then was told the day it was supposed to ship that they were out of their 301 blades and I was going to have to wait another week (again). Just got it in a couple days ago and am finally slabbing today.

I think that's what she's talking about is long wave hence me asking about the black light poster UV I have. Mine is many years old so it may not work as well as a flashlight kind (it should though). captbob

That's better! She sure is pretty. Now, you know us guys want to see some leg... uh.. I mean blade! Why haven't you uncovered the window? Is that in your garage or basement? Having any problems with the oil mist? I've found that if I keep my lid closed for about 5 minutes after a cut, there really isn't any mist to escape at that point. Ya need some kitty litter in that blue tub to set your fresh oily slabs in. Dang she's pretty!

These flashlights are the the same wavelength as the black lights and sre the best that I have found so far. (Well Dave tried it first). Buy two and you and Tonya can night hunt with Paul and I on the Gal.

Only a few of the fluorescent minerals will light up under long wave. Lucky for me a lot of them are quasi local. Corundum, wavelite, apatite and calcite have all lit up for me. For some reason brown corundum doesn't. Now they are brighter or different colors under short wave, but the price is right for long!

It's garage kept. Some mist escapes while cutting. I know to keep it closed for a little bit to let everything settle down. Not my first time using a slab saw just first time owning one. Also, the window is the press wood. No plexi came with it. It's just like a little hatch that opens and the whole system can be used as a trim saw too. captbob
