Matt, if you are in Sydney, go south on 16 and take a left at crane to 7 Sisters. Go to the river and hit the rocks there. DO NOT GET IN THE MOVING WATER. As said, the Yellowstone will eat you up,if caught in it's waters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I refuse to go into the waters, during winter and spring months of the year-The summer and fall it's shallow enough to see the bottom for 15 to 20 feet out, than I venture out a bit-but always pay attention to the surroundings...........

I even go in fast water on the Yellowstone, but I know where I can get away with it and where I can't. 7 sisters drowns a lot of people. I found the camp of a dude who was assumed to have tried it there and never returned.

Well did ya' go hounding after all? I ended up going to the Missouri river instead. Too bad all the gravel beds I normal hound on were under water I guess it's time for me to find a new place to look. The Souris river near Westhope, is it mostly muddy banks or are there areas with rocks as well?

Northern Souris river, north of Westhope,ND................Lots of prehistoric Buffalo teeth-best time in late fall when water levels are down... Go to the most northern part of spillway, north of dam, about a mile and half.....Walk to Canada border.watching for teeth in water, get to borderline, turn around and head back...

My wife and I usually hit the Livingston area a lot during our travels and stay a day or so-found a nice little area on the Yellowstone with a small park and trees for shade, with benches and bathrooms... Tammy would sit there and read a book or etc, while I walked the gravel bed for goodies....Wasn't a lot,but it was all good!

Anyone know of water conditions right now on the yellowstone? Thinking of visiting 7 sisters with the family this weekend, just not sure if we'll be able to get out to the main gravel bar in the middle or not.

Went this morning. The water level is low and conditions were good. Were able to drive out onto the gravel bar. Had a good time out there with the wife and kids, brought back about 40lbs of mostly pet wood/jasper. Looks like the easily accessible areas had been pretty well picked over. I discovered that the USGS tracks the water levels at various locations, so you can check the conditions before hand on this. Just need to have a reference point so the levels mean something. waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?06329500

Glad I found this thread. I'll be near Glasgow, MT next month and was wondering if there are any good places to look near there? I might also be near Billings.
