Dear Sir's,ever since joining this site I have had this problem about the site I upload photos to.It suck's that you can't do it directly like at all the rock web sites out there but ok.The problem in my mind comes from the fact that photobucket, the recomended place seem's really cheap, add based a place that might be around that long. When I try to join flicker the problem is they want a phone # and the land line # is rejected every time.I think flicker is a more social long lived site.At 46 year's old should I finally buy a cell phone I don't want and join the better site so I help create a more stable site here photo wise? Will this picture disappear if photobucket gets shut down unless I take the time to revisit it this post and work hard to redirect things?I am looking for the best option to make sure the pictures I put here go on after I am gone.I love rocks and think pictures are the most important part of education about the whole thing.Mindat.org is a cool place for pictures if you are new to it.The picture is a crazy lace agate I might of already posted somewhere else.Thank You for your time and any replies........Steve

I've been using Photobucket for year without problems, but I have not died yet and so can't speak to 20 years into the future. Sign up, participate, and enjoy. Tom

I've tried both and I like Flickr better. There's almost unlimited space for free. I am 47, and I don't have a cell phone either. I don't remember having to have one to sign up.
The other thing I like about Flickr is that it works better with my Mac and iPad. It's built right into iPhoto's share button.

Sorry, still prefer Photobucket to Flickr. I have an account on both. There are some pics I put on Flickr that I have not been able to access. I did it once before, but I forgot how.
Photobucket is more intuitive, also gives labels on buttons, instead of funky pics - three dots, arrows, etc.
No, Scott, Flickr sucks! Or Fluckr, as you called it, lol.

Well, this sure is something people have opinions about. My problem with photobucket is that I used up all the space in my free account very quickly. I've had zero problems with Flickr. I'm surprised how much trouble others have had.
Dropbox is one I hadn't thought of. I have a free account there, so I migh have to give it a try.

Rob, I have had my photobucket account for three years, at the least. You know how many pics I post. The key is to downsize them (600 X 400 pixels, using Photoshop) before uploading them. In three years, I have used less than 15% of my allotted space.
If you purchase Adobe Photoshop (get the software cheap at Costco!), they also have a space for you to upload pics. I've done that as well. But Photobucket works well for me, as I see it does for a lot of other folks.

Well, I don't mind resizing them (easy peasy, click on "resize for web" in Photoshop), as I like to crop, lighten/darken, color adjust and sharpen pics before anyone sees them, lol.
Scott, may we agree to disagree on this. I still prefer Photobucket.

Flickr allows you to resize images for display here to any size ya want. Viewers can resize too. Photobucket? Not so much. Flickr perfectly intuitive for most users. Lol

My dad just got one last year, he will be 85 in July!
You are never too old too learn. Just get a no frills phone, no internet access, no camera. We used to have a monthly plan, but anymore, we just buy minutes as we use them. Mine may cost a couple hundred a year, Bob uses less than $100 a year.
They are priceless when you have an emergency (calling 911), or summoning a tow truck when your truck breaks down and you are stuck on the freeway. Been there, done that!

I'm not afraid to get a phone. I'm pretty good at technology. I read Apple tech sites daily. The problem is, I'd get an iPhone and the bill costs a fortune. I just don't need a phone that bad. My wife has a Tracfone that I borrow if I'm going hunting or somewhere remote. Otherwise, my wife and I both teach at the same school. What do I need phone for? I just walk down the hall and talk to her. I really want a phone, but I don't need one at all.
Scott and James, can we agree to agree on Flickr?

I bought iPhone 4s several years ago. Use it a lot, mostly for emails. Invaluable as a phone in emergencies, and when speed is necessary. I know several people who don't have a landline , just iphone. Got one for Daymond last year. He only wants to use it as a phone. However, he is using the alarm to tell him when to take his pill. Handy. I suspect he will slowly branch out. I remember when I got my first mechanical pencil. Wow! I was high tech! ? was a lovely red Scripto.
