That's a distinct possibility, Jan, lol. Actually, have been wading thru the rocks on the patio, looking for a few things. After a two year hiatus, we rejoined our rock club. First meeting back, I had the winning ticket for first pick of the door prize items. That event made me the speaker for the "5 Minutes of Fame" talk at the March meeting tomorrow night. Had to find something interesting to talk about. Still undecided on that....
First up, the agate slab I had been thinking of when I first saw your thread. Not quite, more of a fortification. Still cool looking.
This one fits the bill a little better.
Close up. But still not a polyhedroid like yours.
And this is an agate found in Brenda in January, formed in a vug.
And some of the chalcedony I was mentioning.
Can't really appreciate in pics how angular this chalcedony is.
(Pardon the dust!)
This shows the flat outer edges a little better.
This chalcedony glows with a pretty greenish tint under UV. Actually glows with just a black light.
And a sparkly!
This more of a geode, druzy wrapped in rhyolite .
Pucker up!
Or something else? Depends on how you look at it.
All the chalcedony was found in AZ, south of Quartzsite. The area it came from has since been closed to collecting (it's in KOFA), but the location is still in some of the newer AZ rock hounding books.
And just so you can appreciate the mess on my patio, and understand why it took me so long to get some pics posted Picked up this well-built metal rack at the swap meet a couple months ago, thought it would help me organize. Ha!
In position.
The entire area is boxes/containers/buckets of rough and slabs. Ten lbs. of schist in a 5 lb. bag, as it were. (Probably a bit more than that, lol.) 10" HP saw, Kress kiln, and can't see the 20" reciprolap, it's behind the kiln with stuff piled on top of it.
Just some of the stuff.
Pet woods, agatized woods
Will have to slab this one up, once I get the saw uncovered!
Okay, you asked for it. Hope it wasn't too much!
EDIT TO ADD - Just in case it wasn't enough, here's three more of a chunk of Big Diggins agate I picked up a while back at an estate sale.

Mike, could say I "found" them, since they didn't appear here on their own, lol. Some of these were found "in the wild", but the majority of them came from estate sales, rock shows, and the swap meet.
Glad that you like them!

the agate Rockpickerforever showed sure gives us an idea about how the polyhedroids got that way. Sure is a fascinating thing to think about. Jean, you are so organized! I lust that nice sturdy rolling shelf unit. (and all the rocks you showed us!)

LOL Jean, tells you what kind of mind I have, and what my place will look like when I get a few years of collecting under my belt.

Many thanks, rockpickerforever, for posting pics of your beautiful materials that formed into funky geometric shapes. The Brenda agate that you found is a wowzer. Do they call the chalcedony formations "roses?" Love the Big Diggins! Have you and mrrockpickerforever cranked up your kiln yet? May we come to your place for a field trip? Congrats on picking the winning ticket after rejoining the rock club! Have you decided what you will speak about tonight?

Jan, you're welcome. Some might call all chalcedony "roses" but I think that name is more appropriately used for the ones that are more rose looking.
Have not fired up that kiln yet, could not pass it up at the swap meet for $40. Already have another Kress kiln (about half that size) in a shed. I have fired a few pieces of clay with that one, but not for years. Also picked up at the swap a bunch of powdered glass for doing enameling (in my spare time, lol). Think the smaller one would be better for that, as I imagine the big one would just suck the electricity!
Yeah, Jan, come on out and take some of this schist home with you, lol. So much from the estate sales I have no idea what it even is. Will never be able to do anything with it in ten lifetimes.
I think I'll talk about Ocotillo Wells, and the Anza Borrego desert at the meeting tonight. I'm always hearing people ask why you find fossils of aquatic animals in a desert? Will explain how that works.

Have a couple of pieces of fire agate chalcedony and wondered if they were ever collected and/or sold as the roses? They look very similar to them except they lack the pinkish color. ? ...come on out and take some of this schist home with you, lol. ROFL! I think I'll talk about Ocotillo Wells, and the Anza Borrego desert at the meeting tonight. I'm always hearing people ask why you find fossils of aquatic animals in a desert? Will explain how that works. Sounds like an interesting topic and hope your speech was a success, Jean! I really like your shelving unit that has wheels! When you start using the kiln(s), I hope you'll please post about your "how to" and experiences with it on the forum.
