Interesting... How do you get the rocks out after cutting them? Just bust the concrete up and tumble?

Interesting... How do you get the rocks out after cutting them? Just bust the concrete up and tumble? Once sawn so thin, they break out easily Matt. The cement is tile grout, with polymer only, for 1/8" or less joints. Mapei brand(@lowes). I use kerosene in the saw. The concrete dust does not effect it much. It's cheap anyway. Then they get a good cleansing in the tumbler. I built a mold that makes a 6" X 9" X 12" long loaf to get the max cut out of the saw. You can pour slabs, pebbles, big chips, and all kind of shapes to get strange end shapes. It is a rush to see each slab sawn. Productive for cab blanks when doing small pebbles. Long sticks of wood and coral is another good one for pouring. PS In the early stages I tumbled the pebbles smooth. Better not to, so the concrete holds them in place better. Too smooth not good.

I think the group trip would be awesome. Like said, there is safety in numbers..... at least in this country. I really don't think I covered much more than 3 acres truth be known Mark. The biscuit shaped nodules were usually some of the best. There is an access to the lake where Matt Dillon goes in at close by. The lake is full of pebble shores. Never made it to the lake. Only one day at the gravel pit Big stuff to left in pile was discard, pile to right is smaller pebbles and is target size: Close up of target pile sprayed with water: In 5 minutes: My first trip collecting western agates. I was freaked out. Wish I had a camp out there. I enjoyed the people a lot. The bait shop will tell you where the rock shores are. Falcon lake ranks about highest in the country for L.mouth bass. Best Mom and Pop Mexican food I ever had. #1 next far trip for James.

Don't waste your time with the search feature on this forum, it is pretty much worthless!
To find these agates in concrete threads, I used Google. You can use any search engine you want. I typed in "jamesp cutting agate slabs in concrete site:forum.rocktumblinghobby.com"
Second link to come up after a paid ad, the 11th post down in the thread. I'm pretty sure you started a thread of your own on this topic as well. Just play with the words, rearrange them, and you're bound to come up with a half dozen more.

I told a story about this trip captbob. It was an experience staying in the small town of Zapata for 12 days. I met a bunch of crazy folks and partied with them. Almost did not come home ha. Lots of fun and trouble to get into there. mostly trouble. i would like to take a bunch out there some time. The landowner and i got along real well. His property is par excellence (high hills) for killer Rios. Two of the highest hills for many miles, prime agate deposits. Field trip with James to Texas! Heck yeah! Lets go!

I will say that is one hot place in August Ann. And walking between the shrubs will tear your arms up. They must have some kind of poison, or the wind blown alkaline soil burns your skin. Thorns in the tires will keep you on the travelled paths. Had dozens of thorns that went clean thru the Michelins. They were trash. Learned the hard way to not use the ole Civic for a jeep down there. I know how focused you are; you'd be mesmerized to the max at this spot. It is a long drive, even from Houston. Great December trip.

Wouldn't be too bad of a trip from Arizona if I can get back down there next winter. Those green pieces are the bong. Jim

Agate rich hills in Mexico, Big Bend, New Mexico-all washed down to this area. Patches of pet wood and washed in wood too. Not so much palm.
