My vibe is in a greenhouse that has been getting to 110F for the past week during the day to get plants up and growing. Viking Vibrasonic is in there and out where the sun hits it. Checked rocks about 4 PM and could hardly touch them. Stuck a meat thermometer down in them and recorded about 165F. The sugar being used for thickener had thinned a bit, but acceptable thickness. This vibe has a concealed motor under the hopper and it heats the hopper up on a cold day. Never thought the rocks would have gotten that hot. Batch came out just fine with great polish. Must move to a cooler location for fear of burning motor up though.

That's cheating. no wonder that last coral was so dang shiny. You are using a baked on finish. Chuck

I did not understand till I checked the rocks at peak temperature one afternoon. The sugar seems to get a bit thinner instead of thicker due to the heat like hot pancake syrup. Yes, baked on finish is cheating for sure LOL. May end up with caramel before it's all over. rock candy

jamesp I knew it got warm but not that warm......................MrP I was stunned Michael. The sun hitting the cap was making a cooker inside. Add the motor heat and boom. Concerned about burning that expensive 2 shaft motor up. I moved it under a table in the shady section.

May be cheaper to get rebuilt. Hope to never find out....................................MrP

...160F sugar syrup woke those nerves up LOL. Glad you removed your vibe from your greenhouse, jamesp. It's supposed to get rather toasty today. But, cold weather will move in this weekend after it rains later today. So tired of everything being water-logged and wacky temperatures, are you? Happy Good Friday, y'all!!

relevant to cutting and not much else in this thread, jamesp do you tissue culture most of your plants? I used to buy in tissue culture from Agstarts, but no longer lest they come up with a new cultivar. All reproduction is done by root division, that's where the serious knife work comes into play. Take a walk throughout he nursery, the girl in one of the photos is my neighbors's wife. Also my slave girl. My neighbor pays me to get her out of his hair just kidding. www.flickr.com/photos/67205364@N06/sets/72157632395461937

that was beautiful! You have a wonderful variety, more than I can perceive in the photos, I am sure. I am so hungry for green things. Good to have help. I loved the time I spent working in a greenhouse.

Jamesp secret all natural tumbled rock candy!!! Now in coral flavor My family is from east Florida on the coast and my Grandmom used to send me down to the beach with a colander to sift the sand at the shore. snowmom(check these clams out) For these tiny clams to make 'Periwinkle Chowder'. Science name is Donax Varaibilis. Just chunk em in a pot of boiling water, meat floats to top an shells fall to bottom. I think I could get about a pound of meat per minute. Easiest clam in the world to collect and prepare. Old Forida food. A bit on the strong flavored side: Their colors can tear up some film:
