OK, I think the cutting is done, now need to find some ideas as to how to get into those rather deep recesses for polish. Suppose will have to go to the shops and get smaller felt-burrs, plus toothpicks.

The opalite does not crumble, its the second (unknown) material with the dragon-girl. Opalite does have loose sheets within, as well as natural holes that you don't see until you hit cavities. OK, got it now. (I hope!) I guess "crumble" was a poor term but if I work it too fast on grinding wheel, little bits flake off -- a bit like it flakes like bloodstone although it's much softer than bloodstone. Enough with my attempt at verbal description, here is a photo, I'm confident it's the same material as your first photo although I've been wrong before and will be wrong again... I posted it to Insta under the name opalized dendritic agate, I'm not selling it, I'm working so I guess I have plenty of time to find out if that's the wrong name. :-)

You seem to have a mixed bag of beans here. Some looks like Dendrite Opal Agate from Turkey (the bluer ones), and others (reddish/brown) look like dendrite opal. But yes, there seems to be some very close matches with the stuff I got.
The unknown one might be Magnetite. Upon asking the same question on forums and FB, I just got a hint, and found a single picture on Google that includes dendrite in Magnetite with all the other textures and colours at the same time.

I love your dragon girl carving, kk! She looks delicately fierce. I also like the one you are currently carving. peachfront, could that be rosella opalite from Oz in your photo? ETA - there's also a yellow dendritic opal from Australia, and on a second look, is what it looks like to me from your pics.

It is indeed yellow dendritic (common) opal or opalized agate from Australia but I just don't know if there's a real name accepted by science or if all of these names are fine for much the same thing...Not very knowledgeable at all about common opal type materials.

Scientifically Opalite is SiO2 which is another Quartz variety. Have a look on this site for more information about the various SiO2 varieties than you could imagine. www.quartzpage.de/gen_mod.html#opalThat Opalite from Western Australia is good stuff if its good but horrid if its not, like a lot of Opal type materials it can dry out and fracture into smaller and smaller pieces. I have buckets of it self collected but its mostly in the horrid category.
