SiC 80 grit for a week at this point. Added them to some coral that has been running for 6 weeks. This is at one week in the rotary. Probably roll them for a total of 3 weeks, depending on wear. Probably great fodder for the vib. Can and may be heated for black and white colors. The ones with iron rich and white coating do best. Making some poor man's orbs. All from one coral psuedomorph: A mix: A mix yet to be tumbled

They are pretty neat, almost like fire agate in a way. I love anything botryoidal.

Thanks Mario. Lots of broken psuedomorphs in the river to chip those off of. I never focus much on collecting them, but will start.
It is botryoidal city in that stretch of the river Adam. Several stretches actually.

Those are so cool! I love the way the red shows through when the white covering is ground off in the tumbler! Very neat stuff!

Cool tumble jamesp! Keep an eye on them, 3 weeks may ruin the orb look you are going for.

Cool tumble jamesp! Keep an eye on them, 3 weeks may ruin the orb look you are going for. The material without the coating is not near as handsome. Yes, about have to check them every clean out captbob. Weird that the cracked/breached ones have the coating. Makes for a quick tumble.

What makes you believe that is an iron rich coating? You sure they're not just calcified?

Way cool James, definitely a balance act in the grind - take off just enough to make the contrast in color and texture pop....looking forward to updates. Cheers

What makes you believe that is an iron rich coating? You sure they're not just calcified? I would guess this is an iron rich coating judging from the color. W/high silica content to have taken a tumble polish. Not much in this area does not get silicified, must have been tons of dissolvable silica. This stuff is butt ugly till tumbled. Some has real thick coatings giving better orbital markings. This seems to be calcified, but also with a high content of silica since it takes a polish at tumble note diffraction when coating is completely removed Some have anhydrous??, uh, water pockets in the cavities of the boobs Heat darkens them This one has maggots in it No coating A mess of them They have like 20 feet of sand and clay sitting on them. Sometimes veins of them collapse as if crushed. Especially the thin walled delicate ones. They are washing out of the river bank at times in fair quantities. They may have froze, not sure what makes the big ones collapse.

Laughing about Jean's 5000 posts and her subtle comparisons. Does length of post have bearing on post activity ? Maybe # of words posted is a better comparison. I should consult rockpickerforever on this matter. If I was a betting man, I would it that she has something to say. Yes Jean, I would it.

No. (One word posts are quite acceptable, jamesp! They count the same. I guess I just don't always have as much to say as you, Gabby!)
