glennz01 thanks for resurrecting the competition, timely for me since we should finally have our shop building finished enough to use by August 1. Pardon the critique but I liked the instant poll results better, kind of like an extremely slow horse race. As we move the stuff from garage to new shop I will set aside some slabs for a future contest prize.

I was thinking that showing the results after voting would influence the vote decision if the system would not show the resaults until locking it in it would be better I think. If everyone wants it that way... I can do it that way but I thought i'd see how the poll turns out... I was thinking the factors of voting should be voting purely on the cab of ones own thoughts without outside influences... like when some people say it should be a close vote between all the items and everyone votes for 1 person.. These are how all the voting systems ive voted with (forums or real life) work usually. As of right now the vote count is almost to the average that it normally is so it is just interesting to see if more people vote or not... on the last day if people see someone is clearly winning so don't vote for the winner because its pointless to vote for others. as for the voting on your own its ok if you really think its the best one but just because you made it does not mean you should vote for it even though you want to win... For next month i'm thining of doing a themed thing like such as sounds like glass rock (which could include obsidian, flint, stuff like that) Maybe i'll do a heart shaped month or something down the road... havent decided but i'll think of it after my trip. |

This isn't high school. I would think that people here would vote for the cab they consider the best, not depending on who made it. Other than people that voted for obama, the majority of adults don't vote for the "cool kid". Unlike obama, a cab in this contest has to be worthy of your vote. as for the voting on your own its ok if you really think its the best one but just because you made it does not mean you should vote for it even though you want to win... I posted that because I don't believe that anyone would do such a thing. |

In previous polls we didn't see the current results until after voting, so it couldn't influence votes anyway.

Thanks for stepping up Glenn. I kind of like the poll results going up after I voted, just to be able to see whether other people agreed with me or not. But I'm ok with whatever method.

next poll i'll have the results show after checking a box most likely. I did create this one in a hussy as I was getting ready for my trip at the time... I guess I didn't fully think think about some things.
besides the showing votes after setup do you guys like my current setup where you don't have to go back to the other posts to see the cabs and just look below?
I'm thinking if everyone likes this to have a "rule" for everyone to submit large photos of the item so some are not super small. people could submit a reasobible number of photos and i'll put up the one showing the cab at its best for the poll.
I haven't decided on a theme for next month if i'm going to even do one. Not sure if i'll be able to pull one off or not currently.
if you guys have some theme ideas feel free to reply or pm me.

I am in agreement with @bluesky on the voting and placing all the photos at the polling station because a side by side comparison makes it a lot easier. I would probably have to disagree with captbob about adding political garbage to a cab competition though. But there again bob kind of lives by his own rules so that may be impossible. I will throw in a SFRB of slabs and other goodies for this contest or one in the future if you need it. Just let me know. I can make up a couple different boxes and let the winner choose which one would work best for them. Maybe one of rough and one of slabs. Jim |

Considering there are more votes already than previous polls, is it really necessary to drag out the March contest til mid- August? How bout July 31 closing, announce winner on August 1, and get on with the August contest, competition, showcase, or whatever ya wanna call it. IMHO, I don't see the need to reinvent the wheel here just because we have someone new at the helm. Sure, change is good, but too much change can be off-putting and confusing.

I believe that Glenn had suggested something along the lines of a blind competition where the name of the cab creator was not revealed because he thought it possible that people may vote for the person rather than the cab. My comparison of folks here voting for the "cool kid" rather than the quality of the cab, to people which voted for obama (despite his serious lack of qualifications) simply because he was "the cool kid" was my humorous analogy. If you haven't figured out what an analogy is yet, feel free to look it up. Understanding what I regard to be humorous I would never expect you to grasp nor require you to agree with. |

Most of the other cab contests have a month for voting which is why I chose that date 1 month away from starting.. The august contest will be put up at or before august first. There are still people continuing to vote so why restrict those still voting? I know a lot of people like to vote at last minute as well. If there comes a time that there are no new votes for a while I may lock it, however It would be interesting to see how many votes we get if we reached an above average in a week thus far. I guess if votes stall i'll end it on the 31st or close to that date.
