lilacmoth, that's an eclogite. Omphacite with garnet. I find omphacite quite often, but have never found any with garnet. That's a special stone. If you need somebody to cut it, I might be able to help. Would love to see the insides of that beauty! I was gonna say serpentine with that purple stuff sometimes found in serpentine. Stictite? I do not doubt your identification, but simply ask: Why do you say garnets? I have found various ecoglite with garnet, which are commonly found together. Ecoglite is formed very deep in the earth along with garnet. It is also a indicator mineral for diamond since it forms in the same general depth. I am not convinced that is egoglite either. Density and hardness tests can help with identification.

Fooey. I say cut it. Where there is one, there's gotta be more Lol! I'm with you on that one! I wanna see the guts. Ok, I think the Port Townsend rock club has equipment for use to members. I know mossyrockhound is up there, but he hasn't been on here in a while. Send it to me I'll cut it for you and even make a cab! Lemme know

I love green rocks. Cool veining in that one, and the little particles with the rings around them make me think of this (still unidentified breccia) found on the SW Shores of Lake Huron. I would love to see what that looks like inside! The red will make it spectacular! (look for more!) That is the Diatreme facies kimberlite material you sent me. You id'd it! Why do you say not id'd?? I found only one photo of stuff(diatreme facies kimberlite) that looked similar, I am still not satisfied that this is what the stuff is... not confident enough of that one poor photo to say for sure, kimberlite seems soo unlikely. I'd like to have my speculations confirmed, not enough evidence to my mind to feel certain. Need to send it to a lab I guess.

lilacmoth, any chance you could take a close-up shot of those reddish areas? I swear I'm seeing tiny, disseminated garnet crystals in there. Subduction can do strange things to crystal habits. I could be totally off-base, but I can't think of what else it might be. Especially when found with omphacite...One thing I'm certain of. That IS omphacite. I have a small cache of OM that is identical to yours. Bart Cannon is a local legend when it comes to geology and petrology of Wa State, and he's documented several occurances of eclogite here, so I know it's very possible that's indeed what it is.

It's not breccia but a form of magma.

Ok sorry, I tend to come on this forum late at night, too late to take any good pics! I'll take some tomorrow when it's light out. The purple/red is really undefined, more like swirls, and there are lots of differently colored green bits. Well, you'll see once I get the pics, lol!

Ok, this stupid thing is impossible to photograph. Or maybe I'm losing my eyesight, anyway, this is what I got out in the sun, it was super hard to focus because I used a lens with tubes, so I could only focus manually, which apparently I cannot do! I'm gonna try again later today, indoors under bright lights. Right now I have to go walk my dogs, they're giving me sadface. The whole strange blob: Close ups (everything taken wet)

Do the pictures look dark to anybody else? They looked fine on my desktop but on my phone they look dark!

Great pictures, lilac! Whatever the red is (I still maintain they're garnets:D ), some of them are forming halos around the green crystals. The same with the lighter greens (zoisite?) Interesting rock. One for the Raman, I'd say.

well if the halos are diagnostic, there are certainly halos in LilacMoth's rock... and kimberlite is associated with gems, the red in her rock doesn't look like just surface staining.... not going to draw any conculsions, but .... it might be suggestive.... ?

Lilac moth stone does have halos in an otherwise very different stone. She has something different.

Found another one? Well, not really - it's green and purple as well, but it's lacking the light green 'halos' and just looks less jumbled than the other one. I also got a new camera, that's why I hadn't posted any photos of the original rock, I'd been waiting for it to arrive. Tomorrow I will take close ups New rock:

broseph82 and washingtonrocks, you both offered to cut it for me. I'd like you take you up on the offer, just not sure who to send it to!

Great pics, again, lilac. Your new rock looks like a whole 'nother beast altogether. Kind of looks like Epidote or maybe a Jasper/ jasper with Epidote?
