Making more work for the welder in the house, two sold. Easy to weld, pot is 41 inches across and 21 inches deep, 160 pounds. It is heavy to move around, only complaint. Hemispherical tank ends for LP and propane with 600 psi rating as opposed to shallow compressor tank end at 200 psi max. She planted the scrap iron and the plants.

Hope you're getting a healthy percentage. Shipping has to be a b*tch.

It's a very attractive planter. Do you do anything to keep the steel for rusting out with the watering?

That prompts a question. Drain holes? That would be a small muddy pond here after one afternoon thunderstorm if there are no drains.

Shipping is only $90 to Mobile, once loaded in back of P/U. They remove it with fork lift while I hand over pre filled out paper work. Easier than UPS, freight co. 7 miles from crib. Consignee pays $200 up front for shipping/pallet costs/etc. matt2432 , it takes about 30+ years to rust through 3/8 inch steel. So not much of a concern. Drain:

Solicitor on Etsy found me and want to do an article in Atlanta Mag. $5000/one page ad, and I will be front/center on sub-cover camping page. Oct issue Should result in major sales boost. ""My name is Whitney, and I'm the production manager for Southbound magazine, a southern travel glossy from the publishers of Atlanta magazine. In each issue we have a department page dedicated to southern made goods. I've attached some pdfs of past covers and the Made in the South department page. For our Fall/Winter 2015 issue, we are staging a shoot in Atlanta that's about outdoor fun/camping. It'll be centered around a fire pit, with a vintage Airstream in the background, with some yard games and s'mores kind of thing. In the piece, we will include information about the goods, the price, and where available. I'd love to feature one of your firepits. I was thinking the 30" would make the most sense from a transport and usability standpoint, but i am not sure what you have available right now. And I would want to stage a fire in it, so maybe you have one that you actually use that I could borrrow? The shoot is set for 7/30. And I see that you are in Atlanta, so perhaps we could organize some sort of drop off/pick-up arrangement. I'll send some issues of the magazine, and pdfs of the page for you to use, when it's all printed. If this is something you would be interested in, have any questions, or would like more info, do not hesitate to get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you."" LOL, I sent him a photo of the redneck weld shop, mentioned sub-titles for my accent

Sometimes (not always), being too busy can be a good thing. Looks like you'll have to hire some welding help sooner rather than later. There goes all that spare time you were gonna have during nursery slow time, won't get to play straight through til March like usual. It's a shame the money that co es in from sales bypasses your wallet and goes straight to Denise, lol. Probably not a bad thing, really, as she would spend it more wisely. You would foolishly spend it on more material, and put back into the company (said tongue in cheek). If the magazine is mainly read in the south, you won't need subtitles. Y'all can unnerstand each other perfectly back there! Ya did good, James!

They want to pay you $5000 or you pay them to be in their mag? You paying 5k seems like it would take the profit from a LOT of firepits/planters to recoup that. If they want to include your product in the pictures, great! If you're buying ad space, maybe less than a page would suffice?

That is the cost to do a full page sub-cover ad Bob. I will only be a part of the cover ad, but it is valuable publicity. 1/6 page ad is $1200, full page for 12 months is $2000-3000 Oh yea, not going to pay $5000 for any ad. Too much to recuperate. Etsy is $.20 and keeps me half busy. A one time high dollar ad may get my name out to Atlanta in Atlanta Mag, and then word of mouth may take over. Getting ready to find out for free I suppose. Nice opportunity to find out.

Y'all can unnerstand each other perfectly back there! Ya did good, James! The thing i like about this biz is I can weld like hell for two weeks and sell that inventory over 2-3 months Jean. If I hired 2 contract welders for two weeks they could sure pile up some inventory. As long as there is a high profit margin then bring it on. margins great, so far. No solution for the Unit spending the earnings. Atlanta Magazine is high end, guessing their clients are not sub-title breeding. Whitney, the editor, well, he did not need to be sub-titled. He is coming to the house to pick up the fire pit for the shoot. So I will march him over to look at wife unit's light biz, she will owe me. Told her to make her work area neat and organized like mine:

Nice opportunity to find out. When we used to be in the reptile breeding / products biz, we had the same thing happen. At a show we were selling at, we were approached by a woman representing a new magazine. She was working a booth, selling subscriptions, and then going booth to booth to see if she could drum up some advertising business. 1/4 or even 1/8 page ad cost prohibitive. Shortly after the show, she starts calling and emailing, offering to do a free ad for us. We didn't bite. Ya can't always afford free, if ya know what I mean. It wasn't for us.
But for you, I think it's gonna boost sales, like you said.
No solution for the Unit spending the earnings. Good luck with that, lol. He is coming to the house to pick up the fire pit for the shoot. So I will march him over to look at wife unit's light biz, she will owe me. Told her to make her work area neat and organized like mine: It surely couldn't hurt her lighting business, she will DEFINITELY owe you. Agree with Pat there, ya coulda (shoulda?) stopped before those last two words: "like mine." Ha!

Re Told her to make her work area neat and organized like mine: Hmm, maybe you could just stop at "neat and organized"... Not always the case, but messy often signifies busy Pat. my excuse/sticking to it Note, I can plasma cut, weld, torch, cut rocks, heat treat rocks, drill, grind, polish, saw, hammer, mechanic, paint, break tumbles and several others within 5 steps. The main problem is walking over the cables, tubes, hoses, extension cords, chains, cables, ropes and whatever else is strung on the floor. must wear ankle supporting boots minimum LOL.

That section of the magazine looking for southern artisans. Hoping to drum up an article for wife. Magazines will push, often do a turn around and need you to fill space rockpickerforever. Never know. Hopefully an article about her will overload her circuits and make her too busy to spend the earnings. Keep her at bay in the shop.

Good for you, hope it works out the better for both of you. Wife and I compete Larry. She has an industrial lighting Etsy site, I have a fire pit Etsy site. She has been kicking my butt for 5 years until recently I am nipping at her heals. So she cheats and steals one of my fire pits and plants it up, puts it on HER Etsy site. She did not even weld it up, she stole the bowl from my stock and rolled it on top of the pedestal when I was out of town. cheater I also sell on Craig's list, she does not. Add my(undocumented) Craig's list sales to my Etsy sales and I think I have her whooped. Now she would document Craig's list sales if she sold there just to rub her sales in my face. The magazine interest in my fire pits really has here up in arms. She knows that may send me well past her sales. So there is constant dissension and a goal for bragging rights. I continue to perform a lot of required welding for her on her lights. Does she help me with my fire pits ?-NOT. It's just not fair. I know what you are going to say, shut up and go w/the flow. Great advise. Life goes on.
