September 2015 Friendly Cab Contest /Challenge This is a challenge to yourself... What is the best cab that you can create... posting the results of your creation. Theme: Fall - Halloween colors or spooky cabs... from yellows to pinks to reds, blacks, possibly whites and much more in the color range to choose from.. also spooky things like if you see bones or faces in a stone.. or ribs like cobbledstones made last month. See bottom for an example of a rock with a skeleton bird face in fall colors. Theme reserved for deletion possibilityRules: - Cabs entered must be completed by the deadline (they can be started before the month). All entries will require a photo of the slab or rock, preform and finished cab. So no cabs pulled from the drawer. You can enter as many photos of the finished cab as you like (within reason) on the same post. If you decide to add another photo later on, please edit your original post. Things like intarsias, carvings, jewelry, and composite type cabs may not be entered (unless otherwise specified) in an effort to keep the contest somewhat fair by just entering free form style cabs. It is OK if there is a hole drilled in the item as long as there is no extras on the rock (wire, chord, etc.) We ask that all entries submitted to this contest be unique to this competition (not submitted in several different competitions). any duplicates will not be included in the voting list. Feel free to share with us what ever you like about the material, the process or what ever else you would like to share. Also, don't forget to include the name of the material. If a tie occurs in the voting the breaker will be whoever submitted the finished item first. Prize will be awarded by unclesoska

the box of slabs i'm offering as a prize to the winner of the october cab contest. 'tis a pretty random selection- agate, jaspars rhodanite, etc.- what you see is what you get, and i don't know what some are, just luv to slice rocks. hope to see some spooktacular cabs this month. no, that's not a required theme. also, sorry, my shift isn't working, so no caps.

Just a reminder- Some pretty nice slabs up for winner's prize- Why no entries? If only 1 person enters, I reserve the right to hold over the box of slabs until next month. C'mon y'all, let's leave our personality conflicts @ the door and just have some rockin' fun- Whaddayasay everybody?

Looks like I'll start this off. I cut my cab from a piece of Boysenberry Jasper sold by Michael John on here several years ago. Here's the slabette, which also is the preform: And here's the finished cab, just kinda dark and dreary: Now everyone get busy & post up, there's a week remaining.

I wonder if folks realize that when they edit a post, it does not go to the top of the heap. It stays where it was last posted, often completely unnoticed. Sometimes, invisibility is a good thing. But not so much when a contest is being promoted. In the past, i've really enjoyed and been inspired by these competitions, not as much lately. It's almost like some of our past participants are boycotting the latest competitions for some strange reason. Anybody else feel this way?

I'm thinking its because there has been a large gap on no contests that people dropped out. I know that my theme has nothing to do with it as the results are the same as no theme. Also its not quite winter yet for most people so some people might not have the time. I know that I am just a few shots away from posting my finished piece... as soon as i get a good picture that is.. I try not to get the shine in it which is the hardest thing some times
